Since its foundation in 1988, Signatory Vintage has grown into one of the three largest independent bottlers of single malt whisky. The number of bottlings from the company based in Pitlochry, Scotland, is now approaching 10,000. This includes many special ones, such as the Springbank 1969, which with 96 points is one of the three highest rated drams on Whiskybase.com.
Their bottlings appear in various series, such as the Cask Strength Collection, which is known for its beautiful, if somewhat clumsy, pouring bottles.
In 2002, Signatory Vintage became the owner of the Edradour Distillery.
By putting HP in brackets on the label after 'Orkney 18', bottler Signatory Vintage gives a clear hint from which distillery this single malt whisky comes. The whisky from the Orkneys matured for 18 years in a 1st-fill Oloroso sherry cask. (55.8%)
We don't have enough space to explain here why the name Whitlaw hides the single malt whisky of Highland Park, but that's what it is: 10 years old and matured in first and second-fill Oloroso casks, bottled at 46 %, for a reasonable price.
The Braeval Distillery has not released any bottlings except for two. Still, their single malt whisky is worth bottling. And that's where bottlers like Signatory Vintage enter the stage. This Braeval is 21 years old and is still at 60.3%. Aged on sherry.
One of the series from Signatory Vintage is the Single Grain Collection, a series with very attractively priced bottlings of single grain whisky, not complex, easy to drink. This is a grain from the North British Distillery, 13 years old and at 43%.
This time, bottler Signatory Vintage has released an unpeated, so to speak the standard version of a single malt whisky from Islay distillery Bunnahabhain. The 'Bunna' matured for 11 years in Oloroso sherry casks and was bottled in 2024 at 48.2%.
The label doesn't say so in words (actually just in one letter), but this is a Macallan single malt whisky. The Speysider matured for 18 years in a 1st-fill Oloroso sherry cask and was bottled in November 2023 at a cask strength of 57.4%.
Bottler Signatory Vintage also knows its stuff with single grain whisky. They have released dozens of often well-appreciated bottlings of North British grain alone. Here's another one in the Cask Strength Collection, 31 years old and sherry-aged. (54.3%)
Most of the malt whisky that Speyside distillery Linkwood produces ends up in blends such as Johnnie Walker and White Horse. Fortunately, there are also single malt bottlings like this one from Signatory: 11 years old, bourbon matured and at 60.2%.
This is a harmonious blend of the peaty character of Islay single malt whisky and the sweet and vanilla notes of the bourbon cask. This Caol Ila was bottled by Signatory Vintage at a cask strength of 57.1% after 14 years of maturation in a bourbon cask.
The tenth Small Batch edition of Signatory Vintage already. It is a 10-year-old Aberfeldy single malt whisky. The Aberfeldy malt is mainly found in Dewar's blended whisky, but here it matured in Oloroso sherry casks. The Highlander is bottled at 48.2%.
The Cask Strength Collection from bottler Signatory Vintage is known for its quality. This single grain whisky from Lowlands distillery North British, 31 years old and matured in an Oloroso cask, appeared in that Collection at the end of 2023, at 56.1%.
This 28-year-old single grain whisky from the Port Dundas grain distillery, which closed in 2010, appeared in the Cask Strength Collection of Signatory Vintage. The grain matured in a bourbon cask from which 211 bottles came at a cask strength of 56.1%.
You will often find the single malt whisky from Benrinnes distillery as a sherried bottling. Perhaps that is why this Benrinnes, aged in bourbon casks for 26 years, is extra attractive. The malt aged in two casks, which together yielded 527 bottles. 53.5%
It matured in two 2nd-fill Oloroso sherry casks, this 14-year-old Port Dundas single grain whisky. The grain from the distillery that closed in 2010 was bottled in mid-2023. An edition of Signatory Vintage with an excellent price/quality ratio. (46%)
Highland distillery Ardmore produces a lightly peated single malt whisky. In this bottling, the peated element is enhanced because Signatory Vintage allowed the whisky to mature for 13 years in casks that previously contained peated Islay whisky. (46%)
