In 1857, Jakob Baumberger founded a brandy distillery and brewery in Aarwangen, Switzerland. Barley malt was also distilled there. Until a ban on distillation of grain and potatoes was issued in 1939, a ban that was only lifted in 1999. The latter was for Hans Baumberger the impetus to follow in the footsteps of his great-grandfather and to produce traditional single malt whisky.
