Karuizawa was a small Japanese distillery that from around 1975 produced single malt whisky that became known worldwide for its high quality. Karuizawa closed in 2001 due to internal troubles. Bottles of this Japanese single malt still appear. Due to the still high quality, the 'closed distillery effect' and the hype about Japanese whisky, the asking prices are sky high.
