Spirit is the general term for whisky that you may not call whisky because it has not been aged in oak barrels for 3 years or longer, or because it has an alcohol content of less than 40%.The spirit that has not matured or matured not long enough is also called 'new spirit'. This is the spirit that we can encounter at the liquor store. This usually concerns the product of new distilleries that have been in production for less than 3 years.
The spirit with less than 40% alcohol usually results by alcohol evaporation from the cask. You will rarely find this spirit in the store (according to rumors it usually disappears in blended malts, or even in single malts, but officially that is not allowed).
