In Perth, Scotland, Decadent Drinks is always looking for unique whisky, cognac and rum to bottle. One of the founders is whisky writer and blogger Angus MacRaild. His whisky bottlings come out under the WhiskySponge brand. The labels of each bottling are original and humorous.
The 2023 autumn edition of Decadent Drinks series Equinox & Solstice is a bottling of two refill bourbon casks in which Aberfeldy single malt whisky matured for 10 years. Robust and full of character, this is a perfect warming whisky for the autumn. 48.5%
The bottlings of Decadent Drinks co-founder Angus MacRaild are released under the WhiskySponge label. So is this 24-year-old Ardmore single malt whisky. The Highlander matured in a refill bourbon cask and is bottled in 250 bottles at cask strength (52.4%)
It is composed of a 2005 barrel mixed with a 2007 barrel, both of which spent 11 years maturing tropically in Barbados before transfer to the UK. It is bottled at 50%. It's full of coconut sweetness and pulpy and exotic fruit notes.
And yet another special WhiskySponge bottling: it is a 34-year-old Bladnoch single malt whisky that matured in a bourbon cask from which the bottler had already extracted 50 bottles in 2023. This created more room for flavour-inducing reactions. (55.1%)
This is the 96th edition of Whisky Sponge whisky—on to the 100th! It is a 19-year-old Bruichladdich single malt whisky that matured in a 1st fill bourbon cask and is bottled at cask strength (57.1%). It is a very creamy, powerful dram with maritime notes.
The whiskies in Decadent Drinks' Equinox & Solstice series are always bottled at the easy drinking strength of 48.5%. That goes also for this Autumn Edition, a Caol Ila single malt whisky that matured for 11 years in an Oloroso European oak cask.
With the WhiskySponge bottlings, we have a lot of interesting offers again! Like this Orkney Sponge, for example: a 23-year-old Highland Park single malt whisky. The malt matured in a refill hogshead, a bourbon cask. Bottled at cask strength (57%).
This is the winter edition 2023 from the Equinox & Solstice series by Decadent Drinks. An 11-year-old Miltonduff single malt whisky that matured in a sherry cask. A comfortably warm dram, 'a wealth of warmth, ruddy fruits...', as the label says. (48.5%)
