London-based Elixir Distillers specializes in bottlings of Scotch whisky, but they also bottle American, Irish and Japanese whiskies. The company releases 3 well-known series: Elements of Islay with its striking bottles and labels, The Single Malts of Scotland with vintage whiskies from all over Scotland, and Port Askaig with bottles of unspecified Islay whiskies.
Until 2017 these series were released until 2017 under the name of Specialty Drinks Ltd., a wholesaler in spirits. Since 2017, the bottling of whisky has been housed in the independent Elixir Distillers branch.
This very special bottling of a 30-year-old Islay single malt whisky appeared in the small-batch series A Marriage of Casks under The Single Malts of Scotland label. Which distillery is it exactly? Maybe you can taste it! (47.5%)
Well known and appreciated are the Elements of Islay editions from Elixir Distillers with cask strength Islay single malt whiskies. Now they also release blends of Islay single malts in that series. Like this one that aged in bourbon and sherry casks. 46%
Elements of Islay is Elixir Distillers' highly regarded Islay single malt line of bottlings with names like physical elements. For example, there is a whisky Lp11. That stands for the 11th edition of a Laphroaig malt. Now in a sample set of 5 bottles.
Just above whisky island Islay is the small island of Jura. And that's where this single malt whisky comes from. A special Jura, this bottling of Elixir Distillers. It is a 29-year-old blend of a couple of casks, at quite a 'slimmed down' percentage.
Linkwood's malt whisky is mainly found in blends such as Johnnie Walker and White Horse, but fortunately, single malt whisky bottlings are also regularly released. This is an attractive and affordable one, matured for 11 years in a bourbon cask. (55.8%)
You will never know for sure which Islay single malt whisky a Port Askaig is, but with this 8-year-old dram you can taste that it is an Islay-peated whisky immediately. Despite its youth, it is quite complex, but very pleasant to drink. Bottled at 45.8%.
Port Askaig is a town on the whisky island of Islay. Nearby is the Caol Ila Distillery. Port Askaig is also the brand of a peated Islay single malt whisky bottled by Elixir Distillers. This Cask Strength edition matured in bourbon casks. (59.4%)
