Murray McDavid approaches the bottling of single malt whisky differently from most other bottlers. The company goes back to the way top wines find their way to the bottle. So no single cask bottling, but bottling of whisky from the same batch that has matured in different, carefully selected casks. It is no coincidence that these are often former wine casks.
The ripening in the casks selected by Murray McDavid takes place at the Coleburn Distillery in the Speyside.
About fifteen years ago, you would still come across them: independent Ardbeg bottlings. This is one from 2011, released by Murray McDavid. The Islay single malt whisky matured for 17 years in a bourbon cask before being bottled at 56.5%. (score: 88.92)
