You will not often find a distillery bottling from Auchroisk. This distillery was set up in 1972 at Rothes in the Speyside to produce malt whisky for blends, and for 'The Singleton of Auchroisk' by Ruchill & Ross. You will also encounter the single-malt whisky from Auchroisk in bottles from independent bottlers such as Cadenhead and Douglas Laing.
Auchroisk was founded in the 1970s to supply single malt to the blending industry. Fortunately, every now and then, bottlings of this Speyside malt escape that fate, so we can sample it. For example, this 14-year-old, Oloroso-matured edition. (58.4%)
This Auchroisk is a Diageo Special Release from 2010 with a classic label. It is a Special Release indeed, because 20-year-old cask strength bottlings of the Speyside single malt whisky are not very common. Complex, sweet and very aromatic. (58.1%)
You will rarely come across a bottling of the Auchroisk Distillery itself. For this Speyside single malt whisky we have to wait for bottlings like this one by Brachadair. The Auchroisk matured for 8 years on an Oloroso sherry cask and was bottled at 59.7%
This 13-year-old Auchroisk single malt whisky was released in Douglas Laing's Dutch Dram Masters series. The special feature of this bottling is that the Speysider was finished in an ice wine cask (ice wine: dessert wine made from frozen grapes). 55.4%
Under the Gordon & MacPhail banner, James Gordon Whisky Co. bottled this Auchroisk single malt whisky in the Spirit of Scotland series. The Speysider aged for 11 years in a refill bourbon cask. Fresh and sweet citrus notes, pineapple, and honey. (57.5%)
