Dating back to the beginning of the 19th century, this Speyside distillery has released only a handful own distillery bottlings, the first in 1991. You will therefore find the name Balmenach mostly on labels of independent bottlers. Balmenach produces single malt whisky in the typical Speyside style, with its own character.
Balmenach is not the best-known single malt distillery (most of its whisky ends up in blends), but the single-malt bottlings it releases often receive high ratings. That will likely be the case with this 24-year-old, sherry-aged bottling as well. (52.4%)
In its Ultimate series, Van Wees released this 14-year-old Oloroso cask-finished Balmenach. The Balmenach distillery has been distilling single malt whisky for about two centuries, a whisky in the typical Speyside style, but with its own character. (46%)
