The Bowmore Distillery was founded in 1779 in Bowmore, the capital of whisky island Islay. This would make Bowmore one of the oldest still active distilleries in Scotland.
Just like most other Islay whiskies, Bowmore produces a peated single malt. The largest part is for own and independent bottling, a smaller part goes to blends such as Black Bottle. In the 1990s something changed in the taste of the Bowmore whisky, which was not appreciated by many customers. There are different theories about the cause, but the taste is as it was before again for years now.
This 12-year malt is part of the core range of Bowmore, one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. A good example of a typical Bowmore, this whisky, with a nice balance between peat smoke and citrus and vanilla. Bottled at 40%.
A nice 12-year-old Bowmore single malt whisky, well balanced, moderately smoky, pleasant to drink. In a smaller bottle than normal and therefore very affordable!
A Bowmore single malt whisky from the 80s: for many a whisky enthusiast this appeals to the imagination! This 22-year-old Bowmore from 1982 was bottled in 2004 by Hart Brothers for the American market. An exclusive bottle!
On the label of this 25-year-old Bowmore single malt whisky, the distillery advises: 'should be savoured slowly'. And indeed, this is such a dram to sit down with, if possible in front of the open fire. This Bowmore matured in bourbon and sherry casks.
A special bottling from the Bowmore distillery, this 26-year-old single malt whisky. First 13 years in bourbon barrels, then 13 years in wine casks. This yielded a whisky that gets very good reviews. Of course there is a price tag ...
Bw stands for Bowmore, and the 8 stands for the eighth bottling as Element of Islay and not for its age (which is considerably higher here). Elixir Distillers always bottles the peated Islay single malt whiskies in this range at cask strength.
An 'entry model' this Bowmore Legend. For those who want to get to know this medium-smoky Islay single malt whisky. Or for those who always want to have a standard Bowmore in the cupboard. Matured in bourbon barrels and bottled at 46%.
