The Bowmore Distillery was founded in 1779 in Bowmore, the capital of whisky island Islay. This would make Bowmore one of the oldest still active distilleries in Scotland.
Just like most other Islay whiskies, Bowmore produces a peated single malt. The largest part is for own and independent bottling, a smaller part goes to blends such as Black Bottle. In the 1990s something changed in the taste of the Bowmore whisky, which was not appreciated by many customers. There are different theories about the cause, but the taste is as it was before again for years now.
Independent Bowmore bottlings are not seen very often, but this is already the third from Living Souls. At 7 years old, this is a relatively young Bowmore. The Islay single malt matured in a bourbon cask. A mildly smoky dram with maritime notes. (55.0%)
A 12-year-old sherried Bowmore single malt whisky for this price; you don't want to miss that out! The mildly peated Islay malt matured in Oloroso and bourbon casks before having an oloroso finish. Released in the Sherry Oak Cask series. (40%)
This 15 year old single malt whisky is a standard bottling from the old Bowmore Distillery on whisky island Islay. For most of those 15 years, the peated whisky matured in bourbon casks, the last part, the finish, was in sherry casks. Bottled at 43%.
Although this is a core bottling of the Bowmore Distillery, each edition is slightly different. But the basis is always the same: the single malt whisky matured for 18 years in bourbon and sherry casks, yielding notes of mild peat smoke and tropical fruit
This bottle was hand-filled in 2014 by a visitor to Islay distillery Bowmore. A truly unique bottle! The single malt whisky comes, at cask strength (49.4%) of course, from a first-fill Oloroso sherry cask in which it matured for 18 years. (Rating: 90.78)
This single malt whisky was hand-bottled by its first owner in 2019 at the Bowmore distillery itself. Bowmore and sherry is always a good combination, and this Bowmore has matured in a sherry cask for 24 years. A fine dram at 48.8% cask strength.
In the Symington's Choice series we have seen some stellar bottlings. The vaults of Signatory seem to contain endless hidden treasures. A 1997 aged for 25 years, almost hitting the 90 point mark. We have no doubt this will be good!
A pretty special bottling, which the Taiwanese The Whisky Blues presents here. It is a Bowmore single malt whisky. You don't often see this as a third-party bottling. The medium-peated Islay malt aged in a sherry cask for 26 years and is bottled at 50.1%.
This Bowmore was hand-filled in 2017 by a visitor to the distillery in Bowmore, the capital of Islay. It is a single malt that matured for 17 years in a first-fill sherry cask. An oily sherry bomb with maritime notes and mild peat smoke. (56.9% ABV)
Bowmore, on the Isle of Islay, is one of Scotland's oldest and best-known distilleries. Next to standard bottlings, Bowmore also releases special editions of their single malt whisky, like this one: matured for 21 years in select French wine casks, 48.4%.

In 2006, Islay distillery Bowmore released this bottling in their Cask Strength series Vaults. The peated single malt whisky was bottled at 56.0% ABV. How long the whisky was matured and in which casks is unknown, but it tastes like a sherried dram.
