A grain whisky distillery in the Lowlands, which was closed a long time ago. The Caledonian distillery was founded in 1855 under the name of Edinburgh. For a few years it was the largest whisky distillery in Scotland. Caledonian has also produced an 'Irish-style malt whiskey' for around thirty years, until around 1900. The distillery closed in 1988. It was demolished in 1997. Some 80 Caledonian bottlings were subsequently released by independent bottlers. There won't be many more.
This Caledonian single grain whisky was bottled in 2022, 34 years after the distillery closed. The grain in this bottling is 35 years old and has therefore been given sufficient time to develop in the cask (a bourbon hogshead). Bottled at 54.9% ABV.
