McConnell's Irish Whisky was originally established in Belfast in 1776 by two brothers, John and James McConnell. After over 150 years of popularity the brand ran into hard times as a result of a great fire and US Prohibition, ultimately closing its Belfast distillery in 1958. The brand is recently recovered by Conecuh Brands. They are working on a new distillery in the historic Crumlin Road Jail in Belfast, not far from the original distillery. Until the new distillery is built, McConnell's Irish Whisky comes from The Great Northern Distillery in Ireland. And it is McConnell's Irish Whisky without the 'e'.
