Quite confusing, but the Saint Magdalene distillery that was founded in the Lowlands in 1798 is also known as the Linlithgow distillery. Until the distillery closed in 1983 (now demolished) only a handful distillery bottlings appeared. All but one as St Magdalene. Independent bottlings appear under both names. Or rather, appeared. Since 2015, almost no Linlithgow / St Magdalene bottling has been released. Under whatever name, the single malt whisky bottlings received a very high score on average.
In 2008, bottler Blackadder released in its Raw Cask series this 25-year-old St. Magdalene. The single malt whisky from the Lowland distillery, which closed in 1983, had matured for 25 years in a bourbon cask and was bottled at a cask strength of 61.8%!
