The Strathmill distillery has been from its origins in 1891 focused on the production of single malt whisky for the blend industry. Of this Speyside distillery, apart from a Flora & Fauna bottle, actually no distillery bottlings are known. There are, however, a few hundred independent bottlings.
Strathmill is located in Keith and has nearby neighbours Strathisla, Glen Keith, Aultmore and Glentauchers distilleries.
This 12-year-old Strathmill single malt whisky in the Flora & Fauna series is one of the very few bottlings of this Speyside distillery. For that reason alone a special bottle. At 43% a pleasant drinkable, uncomplicated Speysider.
The Strathmill Distillery opened 130 years ago to supply single malt whisky for the blended whiskies. And the distillery still does. But sometimes bottlings of this malt appear. Like this nicely priced 12 years old Flora & Fauna edition, light and rounded
No official distillery bottlings are actually known of the Speyside distillery Strathmill. To be able to taste this single malt whisky, we have to rely on independent bottlings like this one. 23 years old, matured in bourbon casks and bottled at 57.4%.
The Vintage Collection from bottler Signatory Vintage offers bottlings of Scotch whiskies for a very nice price. Like this Strathmill single malt whisky. It matured for 12 years on two '1st fill' bourbon casks (hogsheads) and was bottled at 43%.
