The relatively young (1971) Speyside distillery Mannochmore, built in Elgin, just behind the Glenlossie distillery, remained relatively unknown, partly because there were hardly any distillery bottlings. Until Mannochmore came up with its Loch Dhu in 1996: the Black Whisky. Mannochmore was notorious in one fell swoop. The black single malt was detested by most of the drinkers and caused a lot of commotion. The fact that Mannochmore can also make good single malts is proven by other distillery bottlings and numerous independent bottlings.
