Shinshu is a brand of the Japanese Mars Hombo distillery (also called Shinshu Mars). The distillery of the Hombo family is the highest in Japan. In 1949, in addition to sake, single malt whisky was added to the repertoire. The distillery was situated on a southern island until 1984, but in that year the Hombo family moved it to the mountains. Shinshu Mars did not produce whisky between 1992 and 2011.
