Things have gone awry with the Highlands distillery Teaninich. It opened its doors in 1817, in Alness, Northern Scotland. The Teaninich single malt whisky distillery still stands on that spot, but that is actually a different one than the first. In short the history:
In 1970 the old distillery was expanded extensively with a new building with 6 stills next to the old one. In the next 10 years, the old building was renovated and equipped with new installations. In 1984 the old part was shut down, the new part a year later. But the new part became active again in 1991. The old part never woke up. It was demolished in 1999. Teaninich has no real distillery bottlings and produces almost exclusively for the blend industry (Johnnie Walker Red Label in particular). But until now, around 400 independent Teaninich bottlings have been released.
