The history of Port Dundas as a whisky producer is rather erratic. From 1813, there were two Port Dundas distilleries in Glasgow, which of course then both produced single malt whisky. In 1845 both Port Dundas distilleries switched to the production of grain whisky with the purchase of a Coffey still, and in 1877 they merged into one Port Dundas grain distillery. That was destroyed by a major fire in 1903, but rebuilt quickly afterwards. Port Dundas was closed on Friday January 1st, 2010. Independent Port Dundas bottlings are still released.
