The Widow Jane Distillery is located in Brooklyn, New York. They distil corn, barley malt, and also rye malt as this bottle shows. As with their other whiskies, for the production of this Rye Mash natural limestone-filtered water has been used. At 45.5%.
A creamy dram with notes of citrus, sultanas, coconut, toasted grain, granola, mint and ginger. These notes and more make up the flavour palette of this 18-year-old, bourbon-matured Glentauchers single malt whisky, bottled by Thompson Bros at 52.4%.
A pleasantly drinkable Highlander for a very reasonable price. That is this 12-year-old, cask-strength bottled Tomatin single malt whisky. It was bottled from a bourbon cask by Archives in 2023 in their famous series The Fishes of Samoa. (58.6%)
In their Birds from the Orient series, Archives released this Glen Moray in 2023. The Speyside single malt whisky matured for 14 years in a first-fill bourbon cask and emerged as a very drinkable summer single malt whisky with mild fruity notes. (54.5%)
The two-century-old Fettercairn distillery in the East Highlands is not well-known. Yet their stills sometimes produce surprisingly good bottlings. This is an Archives bottling from 2022. The single malt whisky aged in a bourbon cask for 13 years. (56.3%)
Maritime, medicinal, salty and smoky. You only need to taste these notes, and all the others in this whisky, to know that Williamson single malt whisky is indeed Laphroaig. This Archives-bottling matured for 8 years in a bourbon cask. Bottled at 65.5%!
Since their first Ledaig bottling in 2012, Archives have now released a total of ten bottlings of this peated single malt whisky brand. This is one of them. It was released in 2022 after 13 years of bourbon cask maturation. A true Ledaig again. (58.2%)
In 2021, Archives released three bottlings in the Venomous Snakes series, three single malt whiskies from Texas-based Balcones Distilling. Like the others, this one is a powerful dram at 66.3% ABV. It matured for 4 years in a new French oak cask.
'Remarkably sweet' is what you see in various reviews of this Ledaig bottled by Archives in 2019. But of course there are also the characteristic earthy, salty and peaty tones of this single malt whisky. It matured for 11 years in a bourbon cask. (53.8%)
The Distillery Reserve Collection is a series of bottlings of special whiskies from Chivas Brothers distilleries, all at cask strength. This bottle is from a 2018 edition: a 16-year-old, bourbon-matured Miltonduff single malt whisky. (56.6%)
In 2022, Mark & Kate Watt bottled this single malt whisky from the young Israeli M&H Whisky Distillery under the Watt Whisky label. The whisky had matured for 3 years in a shaved and then re-charred bourbon cask and was bottled at 57.1% cask strength.
An exemplary 'Laddie', is how tasters describe this 12-year-old Bruichladdich single malt whisky, bottled in 2018 by Archives in the Fishes of Samoa series. The Islay malt matured in an ex-bourbon cask and is bottled at a cask strength of 52.5%.
Four years ago, Archives released this 30-year-old Secret Speyside single malt whisky in their Echinoderms from Australia series. We learned from a reliable source that it is a Glenrothes. The bourbon-matured malt was bottled at 50.2% cask strength.
With their series Butterflies from the USA, Archives bottles whisky specifically for the American market. In this case, it concerns an American whisky released in 2018, a bourbon from Heaven Hill. The 9-year-old whisky is bottled at no less than 69.1%!
A very pleasantly drinkable, sweet and fruity Linkwood, that is how you can briefly describe this single malt whisky bottled by Archives in 2021. The Speysider, released in the famous Fishes of Samoa series, matured for 13 years in a bourbon cask. (56.3%)
For the American market, distillery Glendullan releases its single malt whisky as The Singleton of Glendullan. Otherwise, we depend on bottlings like this 100 Proof Edition #32 from Signatory Vintage. (11 years old, Oloroso sherry matured, 57.1%)
Benromach is not averse to experimenting. This is also the case with this edition in their Contrast series. The single malt whisky is distilled from barley malt with a high enzyme content, a malt normally used for grain whisky. (12y, bourbon aged, 46%)
This Hemel & Hellevuur Dutch single malt whisky was also bottled by 3006 Whisky. The whisky from the young Brabant Bossche Stokers aged for 4 years in a 2nd fill Palo-Cortado octave cask, which is clearly visible from the colour and was bottled at 60.9%.
The sustainable Picadilly Distillery at the foot of the Himalayas has been releasing single malt whisky since 2020. What makes this edition special is that the malt is peated with Indian peat, which enriches the whisky with peat smoke notes. (3y, 58.5%)
Dit is een fles uit de tweede Special van Zuidam's Millstone single malt-whisky. Bij die Specials gaat het om enkelvatsbottelingen, en in dit geval was dat een PX-sherryvat waar de whisky 19 jaar lang op rijpte. Deze Special kwam uit in 2018 op 46% ABV.
Alweer tien jaar geleden bracht bottelaar Douglas of Drumlanrig een botteling van 374 flessen Auchentoshan single malt-whisky uit. Dit is waarschijnlijk de enige fles daarvan die nu te koop is. De 15 jaar oude Lowlander rijpte op een bourbonvat. (46%)
Until 2024, bottlings appeared in Douglas Laing's Single Minded series a few times a year. In 2014, this Dailuaine single malt whisky, which matured for 7 years in a sherry cask, was released. It is a malt with notes of fruit, sweet malt and fudge. 41.5%
Looking for an elegant, floral and subtle Speysider? Look no further; this Glenlivet bottling in the Cask Strength Collection from Signatory Vintage is for you! The classic Speyside single malt whisky matured for 17 years in an Oloroso cask. (60.6%!)
Scapa is the lesser-known of the two Orkney single malt whiskies, and this is a good bottling to get acquainted with it. The whisky matured for 10 years in a small number of bourbon casks and is bottled at 48% ABV. For a reasonable price, it can be yours!
