BenRiach is not afraid to experiment. Their normal distilling process is in two runs, as with most other Scottish whiskymakers, but this edition is triple-distilled. This produces a lighter, milder single malt whisky. Matured in bourbon and sherry casks.
This Kasei blended whisky is bottled by the Japanese Hombo Mars for the French La Maison du Whisky. Malt and grain whisky are brought together here in the smooth Mars style: floral, fruity notes and honey, with a hint of smoke. Bottled at 40%.
Lowlands distillery Bladnoch has a rich history of closings and changes of ownership. In 2015 Bladnoch made a fresh start with their single malt whisky in newly designed bottles. Like this Vinaya that matured in bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks. (46.7%)
The subtitle Carribean Reserve says it all: this The Glenlivet single malt whisky was finished in barrels in which rum was previously aged. And that gives extra notes to the well-known Speyside single malt. And that for a reasonable price. At 40%.
A Benromach bottling in an in 2020 updated design. This is the standard 10 year old single malt whisky from this small Speyside distillery. A malt with a subtle hint of smoke, notes of forest fruits and creamy malt and sherry influences. Bottled at 43%.
The Bunnahabhain Distillery on whisky island Islay mainly produces non-peated single malt whisky, but they make also smoky drams. Take the Toiteach a Dhà (Gaelic for 'Smoky Two'), for example: matured in bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks. Bottled at 46.3%.
The Allt-á-Bhainne Distillery opened in the last century to provide single malt whisky for blends such as Chivas Regal. Anyone who wants to taste this single malt has to rely on third-party bottlings like this one. Aged in a bourbon cask and 23 years old.
Rowan's Creek is a brand of straight Kentucky bourbon whisky and one of the many brands that is produced by Kentucky Bourbon Distillers . This is a small-batch bourbon, traditionally distilled and bottled by hand from newly charred oak barrels. 50.05%
The Woodford Reserve Distillery is in the heart of bourbon country and produces its whisky from copper pot stills. In addition to bourbon, Woodford also makes Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey. A pleasantly drinkable, mild rye whisky for a good price. (45,2%)
Jack Daniel's of course is known worldwide as the Tennessee variety of bourbon whiskey. It is much less known that also rye whiskey is released under the Jack Daniel's brand. We have one here, bottled in 2018 for the German market. Try one? (45%)
Rittenhouse Straight Rye Whiskey is one of the types of American whiskey produced by Heaven Hill Distilleries Inc. As the name implies, Rittenhouse is made from rye. This bottling is 100 proof, so 50% ABV. For a nice price.
This was already a very special bourbon whiskey in 2015 when this Four Roses bottling was released: the last of the Barrel Strength series under the watchful eye of master distiller Jim Rutledge. And now, 6 years later, it is also rare! At 54.3%.
Macallan built up a big name in the last century with its sherried whisky. In addition, the distillery also released single malt whisky that matured on bourbon casks. This 12 year old bottling is a combination: matured in both sherry and bourbon casks!
Due to the Indian climate, the single malt whisky from Bangalore-based Amrut Distillery matures quickly. The mostly young malts therefore have a mature character. And bottled at cask strength, the whisky has a hefty percentage, like this one: 61.8%.
This bottling at 43% from the core range of Auchentoshan ripened in bourbon, oloroso and PX casks, and combines the light, floral-fruity character of this Lowland malt with the dark fruit, the spices and the chocolate of the sherry casks.
This is a very special rye whiskey from FEW Spirits in Illinois. The traditionally distilled whisky matured for 2 years in charred virgin American oak barrels and was diluted to 46.5% with Oolong tea, with notes such as honey, dragon fruit and peach.
A fine example of what Glendronach is famous for: sherried whiskies. Let this 12-year-old 'breathe' for a few minutes, and then taste the nice balance between the spirit and the PX and oloroso casks on which it matured. For a reasonable price. At 43%.
More than 15 years ago, this special Talisker was bottled, after it was vatted for 25 years before. A complex but balanced taste palette in the nose and mouth, all of the notes that characterize Talisker single malt whisky and more. Top class!
After the distillery reopened in 1997, Ardbeg released a number of bottlings as milestones towards a new maturity of the brand. After an 'Almost There' single malt whisky in 2007, this Renaissance was releasedt in 2008, 10 years old and 55.9% strong.
The Irish Teeling Whiskey Company is also not afraid to mature its single malt whisky in less common casks. Teeling used both red port and Carcevelos White port casks to for the maturation of this bottling. The 13-year-old whisky was bottled at 49.5%.
With a new label design, this is a bottling in the Our Bourbon Barrel Reserve series from Glenfiddich, the world's most famous single malt whisky distillery. In addition to maturing in bourbon barrels, this favorably priced malt is finished on new oak.
A new single malt whisky from Belgian distillery De Molenberg. This bottling is finished in oloroso sherry casks, which in addition to its own malty notes also gives notes of red fruit, raisins, gingerbread and chocolate. A mild, pleasantly drinkable dram
The Tobermory Distillery, one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland, also produces peated single malt whisky. This Ledaig (the peated Tobermory) is finished in Rioja casks. (46.3%)
This 12-year-old Irish triple distilled single malt whiskey matured in a bourbon cask before it was finished in French oak casks. Casks that previously contained Château Pichon Baron wine, to be precise. An edition of 2100 bottles, filled at 46%.
