Taiwanese whisky is booming and Kavalan is leading the way for this category. Taiwan benefits from a sub-tropical climate which speeds up the maturation of whisky.
The Solist bottlings from Taiwan's Kavalan distillery are single-cask bottlings at cask strength. Several thousand bottlings in this series have been released, matured in various types of casks. This release matured for 12 years in a port cask. (57.1%)
This is one of the many single-cask, cask-strength bottlings for which Taiwanese Kavalan is known. It matured for 7 years in a bourbon cask. That doesn't seem long, but due to the high temperatures in Taiwan, the single malt whisky is quite mature. (54%)
This single malt bottling from the renowned Taiwanese brand Kavalan matured in first-fill bourbon casks and is bottled at 46% ABV. In addition to its distillery profile, this pleasantly drinkable malt has distinct notes of honey and vanilla.
Taiwan's Yuan Shan Distillery makes single malt whisky under the Kavalan brand. Especially known are the Soloist single-cask bottlings of which several thousand are already released. This Soloist aged in an Oloroso sherry cask. (54.8% ABV)
And there it was, in 2008, Kavalan's first single malt whisky bottling. The distillery, opened in Taiwan in 2005, quickly became popular with its young, but thanks to the locally high temperatures, mature and flavourful whisky, often single cask. (40%)
