The Dutch Hogshead Imports has the mission to offer good whisky at an affordable price. In addition, the bottler believes that the high alcohol percentage of young whisky at cask strength negatively affects the taste experience. That is why Hogshead fills these whiskies with water to a percentage that they believe is optimal for that experience.
For a nice price, you can get this 18-year-old blended Scotch whisky. The Dutch bottler Hogshead Imports had the blend of Scottish malt and grain whiskies matured in a large cask, a refill butt, from which he bottled 614 bottles at a strength of 45.5%.
The Dutch Hogshead Imports import whisky, but they also release bottlings themselves. This Peated Highland is one of them. We don't know which distillery this single malt whisky is from, but the malt is 19 years old, bourbon matured, and at 48% strength.
The Dutch Hogshead Imports checks with each bottling which alcohol percentage best suits the whisky. For example, this 19-year-old single malt whisky from an unnamed Highland distillery that matured in a refill bourbon cask, is bottled at 48%.
