Maltbarn is a German bottler, brainchild of Martin Diekmann. 'The only criterion for our bottlings,' he says, 'is the quality: we are not interested in the latest hype, great marketing tricks or expensive wooden boxes.' Instead, Maltbarn only releases bottles that they themselves like to drink. Those bottles are therefore very well appreciated. Also because of their label, by the way. The Whiskybase-shop is the only point of sale in the Netherlands for Maltbarn.
The spirit for this Bruichladdich single malt whisky comes from one of the early years of the Mark Reynier era at the Islay distillery. It matured in a bourbon cask for over two decades before being bottled by Maltbarn. (55.3%)
One of the few Islay distilleries that produces an unpeated single malt whisky under its own brand name. This Maltbarn Bruichladdich matured for 21 years in a bourbon cask, from which came 161 bottles at 50.5%.
The 226th bottling from bottler Maltbarn is an Islay Malt. If a bottler calls a single malt whisky that, it means a peated malt from one of the distilleries on whisky island Islay. This is a 15-year-old one that matured in a sherry cask. (54.4%)
This Maltbarn bottling is another unspecified single malt whisky from the island of Islay. The label hints at 'Southern A' for the distillery...The whisky matured for 14 years in a bourbon cask and was bottled at 50.2% cask strength. Curious?
The Craigellachie distillery is over 125 years old, but has long maintained a low profile with its single malt whisky. Nowadays they release bottlings themselves, but there are still independent bottlings such as this 16-year-old from Maltbarn. (53.1%)
