The Aberlour distillery was founded in 1879 in the Speyside on the site of a previous by fire destroyed distillery. Aberlour (which means "estuary of the Lour") was itself almost destroyed by fire in 1898.
After that, the distillery always stayed in production, except during the two world wars, for the lack of barley .When it comes to single malt bottlings, Aberlour is best known for its sherried whiskies. The A’bunadh batches at cask strength are almost legendary.
