(pronounced: Brookh-LÈ-dee) Since its construction in 1881, along with the small town of Port Charlotte, on whisky island Islay, the Bruichladdich distillery led a life in the shadow of the other Islay distilleries. It was only when Bruichladdich, after a number of closures customary for Scottish distilleries, opened in new owner's hands in 2001, that the distillery took on its own color. Bruichladdich produces single-malt whiskies under its own name, not mass-produced and often with an experimental twist. Under the Port Charlotte and Octomore labels, the distillery actually does produce peated single malt whisky.
