The Dubhghlas Distillery was founded by whisky enthusiasts Cees and Laura from the Dutch village of Zwartsluis. In between their work as sailors, they already brewed beer. And after some hesitation, they decided to go for it: they bought a second-hand copper boiler and converted it into a still. Now they could brew distillery beer and run it through that kettle. Their Moonshine period started. Now they could experiment and try out, and after their distillations evoked many positive reactions, the navigators decided to build an actual distillery: the Dubhghlas Distillery (Zwartsluis is located on the Zwarte Water, Black Water in English-, and Dubhghlas in Scottish).
Dubhghlas is Scottish for 'black water', and that is the name in Dutch of the river where a new distillery has been built. And this bottling is a preview of the whiskies that Dubhghlas wants to bring to the market. It is a grain, this spirit, at 63.7%.
Rarely do we have new make spirit on offer, the liquid straight from the still that is supposed to become whisky, but this Dubhghlas Peatsieis one! From the quirky, young distillery of a Dutch sailor couple. A delicious, peated spirit. (63.35% ABV)
