There are some ambiguities about the Glenglassaugh distillery and its history. For example, is it situated in the Highlands or in the Speyside? The distillery itself claims to be in the Highlands. And has the distillery been open for a while between 1908 and 1960? In any case, it is clear that Glenglassaugh was active between 1960 and 1986 and supplied single malt whisky for blends such as Cutty Sark and Famous Grouse. And that the distillery was mothballed in '86, apparently forever, to open again in 2008, under a new owner. In the years that followed, the distillery released a whole series of very well-valued old Glenglassaugh bottlings. In 2013, a new owner entered the scene: The Benriach Distillery Co.
When this Jack Wiebers bottling was released in 2006, the Glenglassaugh Distillery had been mothballed for twenty years (only to reopen in 2008). The single malt whisky in this bottling matured for 20 years in a sherry cask and was bottled at 54.6%.
