The Glenmorangie Distillery in the North Highlands is the pioneer of 'finishing' single malt whisky. Around 1995 the distillery released whiskies that had been aged in port, madeira or sherry casks at the end of the maturing period. Many other distilleries and bottlers have now embraced this 'finishing' technique. This method has even become a hype in the whisky world.
Glenmorangie started whisky production in 1849. The pot stills of the distillery are among the largest in the world. Glenmorangie releases many distillery bottlings. There are, however, strikingly few independent bottlings. Moreover, the distillery generally does not want independent bottlings to mention the name Glenmorangie.
The Original is a standard bottling from the Highland distillery Glenmorangie. Unlike many other editions of this brand, the single malt whisky matured in only one type of cask: bourbon casks. An everyday dram for a nice price! (12 year old, at 40%)
A good example of a successful finish in port casks, this Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban single malt whisky. Light and dark fruit, chocolate, cinnamon, pepper, and even sandalwood. With even more body than the 12-year-old version. (46%)

This is an excellent whisky for after a festive dinner. The 16-year-old Glenmorangie single malt matured in bourbon casks and is finished in an exquisite selection of sweet wine casks (like Sauternes, Moscatel and Tokajer), and you can taste that! (46%)

Glenmorangie, never afraid to experiment with maturation, released with this Tale of Spices a complex single malt whisky which matured in four cask types: Moroccan red wine casks, PX casks, charred new oak casks, and re-charred bourbon casks. (46% ABV)
The Marsala casks in which this single malt whisky is finished give it warming, wintry notes of cocoa, Brazilian nut toffee and cinnamon, alongside light, fruity notes and honey. And that was exactly what Glenmorangie distillery intended. (13y, 46% ABV)
The last bottling in the experimental Private Edition series of Highland distillery Glenmorangie. When distilling this single malt whisky, an old type of yeast was used, and that gives different aromas. Go back in time with this Allta!
This Glenmorangie single malt whisky belongs to the experimental Private Edition family. The 15-year-old dram partly matured in special Tuscan wine casks. This results in a whisky with notes of fruit and sweet wine, with a rich, creamy taste. (46%)
This Glenmorangie Companta of unknown age matured in exclusive French wine casks and was bottled in 2014. A fine example of the experimental side of the distillery, which was one of the first to finish whisky in other casks than it matured in. (46%)
More than twenty years ago, Highland distillery Glenmorangie released this Ealanta. The single malt whisky matured in American white oak casks for 19 years. The whisky scored high with its complex palette of notes and aromas. (bottled at 46%)

Maris Otter barley was developed in the 1960s for beer brewing. In the 1970s, it was even the most popular barley for brewing, but it disappeared from view for various reasons until Glenmorangie released a single malt whisky made from this barley in 2014!
