The Glenrothes Distillery, situated in the middle of the Speyside, started in 1879. The single malt whisky distillery survived a major fire in 1897, an explosion in 1903 and another fire in 1922. Of course, a large part of the Glenrothes single malt goes to blended whisky (especially Cutty Sark), but the distillery also releases a lot own bottlings. There are now also various standard bottlings, something that Glenrothes did not have before.
