The Kanosuke distillery went into operation in 2018. The distillery is located among a number of buildings on a spacious, 9,000-square-meter tract of land. As Kagoshima’s weather is typically warm year-round, maturation is accelerated. Kanosuke opened its visitor center at the end of April 2018.
The spirit stills are different shapes to have different flavour profiles. One is designed for a heavier style, the other lighter and fruitier. They are currently using sherry, bourbon and shōchū casks.
This release from the young Japanese Kanosuke Distillery is aptly named Double Distillery, as the label states, because Kanosuke's malt whisky is blended with grain whisky from 'our family's Hioki Distillery.' A promising blend at 53% proof.
This pot-still whisky is distilled by the young Japanese Hioki Distillery, owned by family of the owners of the nearby Kanusoke single malt distillery. The pot-still whisky is made from 90% unmalted barley and only 10% malted barley. Remarkable! (51%)
A fine bottle to introduce you to the single malt whisky from Kanusoke Distillery, established in Japan in 2018. This release is unique because, in addition to American oak casks, it was also matured in casks containing the Japanese spirit shochu. (48%)
