In 2017, the owners of Lochlea Farm in Scotland's South Ayrshire (Lowlands) decided to convert their mixed farm, once home to famed poet and whisky enthusiast Robert Burns, into a distillery. The first new make spirit, made from their own barley, came out of the stills in 2018 and the first Lochlea single malt whisky was bottled in 2021. It is worth noting that the production is led by John Campbell, for many years the successful production manager of the Laphroaig Distillery.
