Springbank is one of the 3 single malt whisky brands produced by the Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown (the smallest Scottish whisky region). The distillery is still the only one in Scotland to perform the entire production process, from malting the barley to bottling the whisky. The barley malt is dried at Springbank with Islay peat in 3 different time lengths. In the end, this produces 3 different types of spirit: a lightly peated, a medium-peated and a heavily peated whisky with the brand names of Hazelburn, Springbank and Longrow respectively.
Another interesting thing to know is that the spirit is distilled three times for Hazelburn, about 2.5 times for Springbank and twice for Longrow.
All of the Springbank single malt whiskies bottled by Archives got high scores. This is also the case for this 2016 bottling of a Springbank that matured for 19 years in a refill bourbon hogshead. 239 bottles came from that cask, at 54.9% cask strength.
