Springbank is one of the 3 single malt whisky brands produced by the Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown (the smallest Scottish whisky region). The distillery is still the only one in Scotland to perform the entire production process, from malting the barley to bottling the whisky. The barley malt is dried at Springbank with Islay peat in 3 different time lengths. In the end, this produces 3 different types of spirit: a lightly peated, a medium-peated and a heavily peated whisky with the brand names of Hazelburn, Springbank and Longrow respectively.
Another interesting thing to know is that the spirit is distilled three times for Hazelburn, about 2.5 times for Springbank and twice for Longrow.
Springbank is the only larger Scottish distillery where the entire production process of single malt-whisky takes place on site, manually, from malting to cask storage. You can taste that, like with this new 10 year old bottling: a real old school malt!

You see it more and more: single malt whisky distilled from barley from the region. The wine concept of 'terroir' plays an increasingly important role in whisky too. Springbank also has a Local Barley series. Matured for 11 years in bourbon casks. (53.1%)
Already the 22nd edition of the Springbank 12 - Cask Strength single malt whisky. And, as you can expect from Springbank, slightly different from previous editions. Lots of fruit, from ripe pears to raspberry, in addition to the well-known mineral notes.
As always this batch of Springbank 12 at cask strength does not disappoint. All the typical Springbank notes are there. Half of this whisky was matured in sherry casks and half in bourbon casks before being married for some time in old casks.
This is batch 21 of the Springbank 12 Cask Strength single malt whisky! Always a surprise, but always at least a good dram. This Batch # 21 matured for 25% on bourbon, for 45% on sherry, for 25% on Burgundy and for 5% on port casks. Bottled at 56.1% ABV.

This Springbank was released in 2016 in a limited edition. It matured for 16 years in 80% bourbon and 20% sherry casks before being bottled at cask strength (54.3%). What makes this single malt whisky really special is that it is made from local barley.
Campbeltown Distillery Springbank also occasionally does single cask bottlings. In 2017 they released this edition, especially for the Belgian market. The single malt whisky is 16 years old. It spent that time in a 'fresh' bourbon cask. Bottled at 48.1%.
Springbank single malt whisky has always been quirky, with a recognizable profile. If it is aged for 17 years in a mix of casks, including 3 years in casks that contained Madeira, then you really get something special. See this release, bottled at 47.8%.
Following the tradition of this Campbeltown brand, this 18-year-old Springbank single malt whisky has again matured in bourbon (20%) and sherry (65%) casks, but now also partly in rum casks! The beloved Springbank character remains the same, of course!
This Springbank is actually too good to be a collector's item, but of course it is: the old-school single malt whisky, vintage 1969, was bottled at a cask strength of 52.8% by Signatory Vintage in 1996 after having matured for 26 years in a sherry cask.
