Since 2017, a second whisky distillery has been in operation on the Scottish island of Skye, next to well-known Talisker: Torabhaig. The distillery is named after the town of Torabhaig, where it was housed in an old farmhouse from the 19th century converted into a traditional distillery. Torabhaig makes traditional single malt whisky, which means peated whisky. Their first single-cask bottling was released at the end of 2020, and the first larger batch in early 2021.
In January 2017, Torabhaig opened its doors as the second whisky distillery on the Isle of Skye. After a first single cask bottling at the end of 2020, this is Torabhaig's second single malt whisky: the Legacy 1. Traditional, artisanal and peated. At 46%.
Following the first batch in 2020, the Isle of Skye's Torabhaig Distillery releases a large batch of their peated, traditionally distilled single malt whisky in 2021. A young whisky of course, but already quite complex. Matured in bourbon casks. (46%)
Torabhaig Distillery presents a series of bottlings, each created based on the vision of one of their distillers. This ‘Iona’s First Edition’ is distilled from unpeated barley malt and 10% ‘chocolate malt’ and matured in bourbon and sherry casks. (60.9%)
This Torabhaig single malt is produced based on the vision of distiller Niall of the Skye distillery. It is distilled from 90% lightly peated malt, 5% Dark Crystal malt, and 5% Brown malt, and matured in 1st-fill bourbon casks and refill rum casks. 59.3%
At the young Torabhaig Distillery on the Isle of Skye, they handle everything in-house, from mashing to bottling. This is how they bottled this Taigh, a single malt in the 'house style' (stoidhle taighe). It matured in bourbon and Madeira casks. (46% ABV)
