Williamson is not a distillery, as the labels of some bottlings suggest. It is the cover name for a whisky from a well-known distillery, and it can be a single malt whisky, or a blended malt whisky. In the latter case, it is one in the 'teaspooned' malt whisky category. In addition, a teaspoon full of another single malt is put in a cask of the single malt whisky. The teaspooned malt may then no longer be named after its distillery. And that distillery shouldn't be mentioned on the label either. With a little thought we will figure out which distillery is hidden behind the name Williamson. We know it is one of the Islay distilleries that make peated whisky. And if we also know that Bessie Williamson (1910-1982) in the last century was the only woman who owned and ran a whisky distillery, and that this was the Laphroaig Distillery, then we know enough ...
Peat smoke, iodine and lanolin, but also dark chocolate, orange and notes reminiscent of a farmyard: a real Islay single malt whisky! 7 years old and bottled at 62.7%. By the way, did you know that a certain Bessie Williamson once owned Laphroaig?
