Around 2011, Speciality Drinks bottled a 19-year-old Islay single malt whisky under the Port Askaig label. It was supposedly a Caol Ila. This complex dram naturally features peat and smoky notes, as well as maritime, sweet, and meaty notes. (45.8% ABV)
This 18-year-old Ben Nevis single malt whisky was released under the Deerstalker label in 2017. You wouldn't guess it from the colour, but this Highland classic matured in a bourbon cask. It's a full-bodied, intense, and distinctive dram. Bottled at 52.0%
In 2007, Duncan Taylor released a 13-year-old Glenlossie single malt whisky in its NC2 Range. NC2 stands for 'non-coloured' and 'non-chill-filtered'. This Speyside malt matured in a bourbon cask and is bottled at 46% ABV. A nostalgic dram.
This is one of the first thousand whiskies registered in Whiskybase. It's a single malt whisky in the Heritage Malt Collection from the Glenfarclas family distillery. We don't know its age, but we do know that it was bottled at 40% ABV in 1999.
Fifteen years ago, renowned bottler Alembic Classique released this Longmorn single malt whisky. The highly regarded Speysider matured for 11 years in a refill bourbon cask and was released in 155 bottles at a cask strength of 51.8% ABV.
A new Ardnamurchan Cask Strength Release, from 2025. This edition is distilled from peated and unpeated barley malt, and the West Highland single malt whisky matured in bourbon and sherry casks. It is bottled at a cask strength of 57.7% ABV.
Batch 1 of Ardnamurchan's The Midgie was intended as a one-off. There's a whole mosquito-related story attached to it, but that's beyond the scope of this text. Let's celebrate batch 2, a true summer malt, matured in bourbon, port, and sherry casks! (48%)
Morven is Wolfburn's lightly peated standard bottling. Smoke is therefore present on the palette, along with notes of caramel, malt, hay, and nuts, and finally, fruit. This 350ml bottle is the perfect way to try this modestly smoky single malt! (46%)
Not as well-known as that other single malt whisky from Orkney, but definitely worth a try, as this Scapa bottling proves. The malt matured for 16 years in American oak casks, resulting in a rich dram with a vibrant and fruity profile. (48%)
Sound of Sleat (a bay off the Isle of Skye) is the title of Chapter 4 in the Torabhaig Distillery's Legacy Series, subtitled Smoke & Taste. A peated single malt whisky that matured in virgin American oak and bourbon casks. A light, fruity, peaty dram. 46%
The young Dutch distillery Wagging Finger isn't afraid to experiment. Take, for example, this 5-year-old Malt & Rye Project bottling: a blend of a bourbon-aged single malt and a rye whisky that matured in virgin American oak. (55%)
This is the 2nd edition of the single malt whisky from Wagging Finger distillery in Deventer. While the 1st edition matured in two ex-Scotch whisky casks, this new, 4-year-old edition matured in an ex-Glenglassaugh and a bourbon cask. (232 bottles, 50.3%)
This is one of the first whisky bottlings from the Belgian Grain Distillery Filliers, which has been active in the distillate business for two centuries. The single malt whisky matured for 4 years in bourbon casks before being bottled in 2023 at 43% ABV.
Distillery Filliers sought out high-quality European oak sherry casks and found, among other things, the PX casks in which this single malt whisky matured. This resulted in a sweet sherry bomb with notes of red and dried fruit and raisins. (58.5% ABV)
This 15-year-old single malt from the Belgian Filliers is certainly a whisky with a distinctive character; the distillery profile is clearly recognisable. The influence of the first-fill sherry casks in which the whisky matured is also unmistakable. (43%)
This bottling from Graanstokerij Filliers in Belgium is a typical rye whisky, characterised by notes of rhubarb, anise, orange, a hint of resin, and green herbs. The whisky matured for 8 years in virgin American oak barrels and is bottled at 46.5% ABV.
The East Flemish distillery Filliers has been active for two centuries now. Since 2007, they also produce whisky, under the Filliers brand since 2019. In 2023, the distillery released this 5-year-old rye whisky, matured in virgin American oak casks. 46.5%
This Longmorn single malt whisky is the Spring 2025 edition from Decadent Drinks' Equinox & Solstice series. It's a two-bourbon cask bottling. It's the first Longmorn for this bottler, and they're thrilled with it! (11 years, 48.5% ABV)
Since January 1995, there has been a first-fill Oloroso cask, filled with Glenrothes single malt whisky, in the Signatory Vintage warehouse. In June 2025, 30 years later, the bottler decided the time was right to bottle, and here's the result. (58.4%)
A 30-year-old Tomintoul single malt whisky isn't often found. But this is one, released by Signatory Vintage as Symington's Choice, a selection from the finest casks in their warehouse. The Speysider matured in a first-fill Oloroso cask. (50.7%)
In their Cask Strength Collection, Signatory Vintage presents a 16-year-old Isle of Jura. This single malt whisky is finished in a first-fill Oloroso cask. It's a rich, sweet malt with maritime notes, dried fruit, berry jam, and toffee. (54.4%)
This Knockdhu single malt whisky (also known as anCnoc) matured for 16 years in a second-fill Oloroso cask before being bottled by Signatory Vintage at 56.9% ABV. It's not a sherry bomb, but rather a subtly sherried, well-balanced dram.
What's special about this bottling of an Aultmore single malt whisky is its cask strength: after 14 years of maturation, including a finish in a 1st-fill Pedro Ximénez cask, it's still at 62.0% ABV! There wasn't much to share with the angels this time.
For a very reasonable price, you can own a 16-year-old Mannochmore single malt whisky, at cask strength (54.6%), finished in a 1st-fill Pedro Ximénez cask. The Speysider has received excellent ratings from those who have already tasted it.
