Islay belongs to the Inner Hebrides in Scotland. The island lies between the Isle of Jura and Northern Ireland. From Ireland, the whisky once crossed over to Islay and thus entered Scotland. The most important place is Bowmore. Other places of interest are Port Ellen and Port Charlotte. The population is just over 3000. With its 8 distilleries, 6 of which produce a smoky whisky, Islay is formally a separate whisky region. It is therefore also known as the Whisky Island.

Bowmore 1989 Adelphi

The folks at Adelphi now have their own distillery, and that keeps them busy enough. However, in 2017, they were still highly regarded bottlers, and they released, among other bottlings, this 27-year-old Bowmore single malt whisky. (52%, score 90.3)

Bowmore 20-year-old 3.299 The Scotch Malt Whisky Society

'Sweet smoke on the water', a fine description by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society of the 20 year old Bowmore single malt whisky that they released on the occasion of the Fèis Isle Festival 2017. It scores almost 90 points on Whiskybase. (54.2%)

Williamson 2010 Whisky AGE
