This Auchroisk is a Diageo Special Release from 2010 with a classic label. It is a Special Release indeed, because 20-year-old cask strength bottlings of the Speyside single malt whisky are not very common. Complex, sweet and very aromatic. (58.1%)
In 2007, beverage producer Diageo came up with this very Special Release: a 30-year-old single malt whisky from the legendary Brora brand (the distillery closed in 1983). 2958 bottles at cask strength (55.7%), matured in sherry and bourbon casks.
Cardhu was one of the first distilleries to launch its own single malt bottlings in the 1960s. The single malt whisky has since been released in several Diageo Special Releases. The 2021 edition is 14 years old and is finished in red wine casks. (55.5%)
From the 1990s to 2017, producer Diageo presented whiskies from their distilleries that hardly released bottlings or were already closed. This is a 22-year-old Craigellachie single malt with vintage 1973. The distillery released no bottlings itself then.
Almost all bottlings of Inchgower single malt whisky come from independent bottlers. This bottling is an exception because it was released in 2004 after 27 years of maturation as a Rare Malts Selection from distillery owner Diageo. (bottled at 55.6% ABV)
In 2005, Johnnie Walker introduced its Green Label, a blended malt whisky (so only single malt whiskies, no grain). Producer Diageo stopped producing this Green Label after a few years, but it is now re-released worldwide due to popular demand.
The Soul of Calypso is the motto of this Diageo Special Release, an 11-year-old Oban single malt whisky. Could that have something to do with rum? Right! This whisky was finished in casks that previously housed Caribbean pot-still rum! Bottled at 58%.
The single malt whisky of Royal Lochnagar near Balmoral Castle was included in Diageo's Classic Malts series in 2005. So the whisky participates in the Diageo Special Releases that many are looking forward to. 16 years old and at 57.5% is this edition.
The bottlings in Diageo's Rare Malts Selection consistently scored well. This includes this bottling of a Teaninich single malt whisky that was released in 1997. The spirit for this whisky was distilled in 1973: a real 'old skool' Teaninich! (57.1% ABV)
The Glen Ord Distillery is producing single malt whisky since 1838. Today it is best known for its reasonably priced standard bottlings. But this Special Release is something different: 15 years old, matured in bourbon and wine casks and bottled at 54.2%.
