The bottles we keep coming back to, personal favourites or just plain good. Some of these will be bang for your buck, but don't be surprised that every now and then we have found something flying under the radar for most.
The Indian Amrut Distilleries, which has existed since 1948, launched its first Amrut single malt whisky in 2004. Amrut is now an established name. In 2020, they released their first triple-distilled malt, the Triparva. This is batch 3. Worth a try! (50%)
In 2014 the first spirit flowed from the stills of the Ardnamurchan Distillery in the Scottish Highlands, and, in 2020, Ardnamurchan's first whisky was released. This edition, AD/04.22:02, was matured in bourbon and sherry casks. (46.8%)
This Balblair single malt whisky aged for 15 years in bourbon and sherry casks. In its role as one of the core bottlings of the Highland distillery, it is nicely balanced between light and exotic fruit, with notes of chocolate, raisins and toffee. (46%)
This small edition Balcones Mirador matured for 43 months in a previously used cask. According to the distiller, it is a homage to the traditional single malt whisky, a whisky 'for contemplation and conversation', but above all for drinking. (at 53% ABV)
A new batch of straight bourbon whisky from Texan Balcones Distilling. And that's not your average bourbon, but one that is distilled from blue corn in traditional pot stills. Definitely worth a try for this great price! (bottled at 46%)
For an excellent price, you can get all five Campbeltown single malt whiskies together in one bottle: Springbank, Hazelburn, Longrow, Glen Scotia and Kilkerran! The blend matured in bourbon and sherry casks, resulting in a mild, creamy and rich dram. 46%
Dubhghlas is Scottish for 'black water', and that is the name in Dutch of the river where a new distillery has been built. And this bottling is a preview of the whiskies that Dubhghlas wants to bring to the market. It is a grain, this spirit, at 63.7%.
The 18-year-old version is one of the core bottlings from Highland distillery Glencadam. The single malt whisky matured in carefully selected ex-bourbon casks. Smooth and pleasant to drink, with fruity notes and notes like vanilla and nutmeg. (46%)
Cnoc na Moine, the Heath Hill, is the title of Chapter 3 in the Legacy Series of the Torabhaig Distillery on the Isle of Skye, subtitled Smoke & Brine. A peated single malt whisky, yes! It matured in cask types such as bourbon, PX and oloroso. (46%)
