A distillery bottling is a bottling by the whisky distillery itself. We also call this 'original brand' bottling or OB. Until the 1970s, there were only 12 distillers in Scotland who released original brands. The whisky from the other distillers that did not disappear into the blends was bottled by independent bottlers.
Almost all distillers now have their own bottlings. This can be standard bottlings that always come in standard quality, or special bottlings in a limited edition. Sometimes even single-cask releases are involved.
But in addition to the OB's, there still appear independent bottlings (IB) from all distilleries.
Speyside Distillery Benromach bottled this single malt whisky especially for Whiskybase in early 2026. The whisky went into the cask, a first-fill bourbon barrel, in early 2008. After 18 years, it was released in 229 bottles at a surprisingly hefty 59.1%.
This Benromach single malt whisky is bottled exclusively for the Netherlands, but is available worldwide through our shop. The Speysider aged for 9 years in a 1st-fill sherry cask and is bottled at 59.1% cask strength. Berries, spices, and a hint of smoke
This Bunnahabhain single malt whisky was bottled in 2026 after over 20 years of maturation. Of that, it spent six years in Armagnac casks, which imparted complex fruit notes to the Islay whisky, alongside the well-known maritime tones. (570 bottles; 49.9%
The 15 is not a standard bottling from Islay distillery Laphroaig. But it is clearly a Laphroaig single malt whisky with its medicinal and smoky notes, with fruity menthol, saline notes, pear, and apple. Pleasantly complex. Bottled at 46%.
Ardnamurchan's Midgies are 'charity bottlings' that contribute to combating a nasty mosquito found in Scotland. This third Midgie batch is a blend of peated and unpeated single malt that matured in bourbon and Ruby and Tawny port casks. (48% ABV)
This is an older Campbeltown Loch bottling (2013?), a 21-year-old blended Scotch whisky, so a mix of malt and grain whiskies. Interesting to compare with the newer Campbeltown Loch bottlings, which are blends of single malt whiskies. (40% ABV)
Founded in 2013, the artisanal Strathearn Distillery distils its single malt whisky from an old barley variety that yields slightly less alcohol but more flavour. This Batch No. 3 matured in bourbon, sherry, and new oak casks. Curious? (50% ABV)
It is no longer possible to determine which whiskies are in this unique Cambeltown Loch blended Scotch whisky, but it certainly contains malts from the Springbank Distillery. The youngest of the constituent whiskies is no less than 25 years old. (40%)
This Paul John single malt from the Indian John Distilleries, released in the Select Cask series, matured in the tropical climate of Goa and is finished in Madeira casks. An explosion of sweet and creamy flavours, tropical fruit, caramel, and nuts. (48%)
A true 'old school' bottling, this Glen Garioch with its classic deer label. The Highland single malt whisky was released between 2006 and 2009, after 15 years of maturation in oak. Spicy, floral, sweet malt, honey, vanilla and ripe fruit. (43%)
Paul John, the brand launched in 2012 by the Indian John Distilleries, is now an established name. The single malt is distilled from Indian barley. This edition, matured in port casks in a tropical climate, was released in the Select Cask series. (48%)
This is truly a unique bottling! This Shackleton's The Discovery Edition from the brand Mackinlay's is a replica of the blended malt whisky that Sir Ernest Shackleton took with him on his famous Antarctic expedition in 1907. Bottled in 2011 at 47.3% ABV.
This 10-year-old Ledaig is the first edition of this peated single malt whisky that is bottled at cask strength by the Tobermory distillery. The characteristic earthy notes are clearly present, peat smoke of course, vanilla, candied fruit, tobacco. 58.8%
The Original, is the name of this 1770 Glasgow bottling, subtitled Fresh & Fruity. This single malt whisky, from Glasgow indeed, matured in first-fill bourbon casks and is finished in virgin oak. You will find that in the taste palette. Bottled at 46%.
The Dutch name Azijnhouten-ankersluitings-borgpen of this Dubhghlas single malt refers to the maritime background of the makers. The whisky itself is a peated malt that matured for 3 years in a 1st-fill Tawny port cask. This yielded 141 bottles at 62.5%.
Lochindaal is a single malt whisky from Bruichladdich that falls in terms of smokiness somewhere between Port Charlotte and Octomore, both also from that Islay distillery. This Lochindaal matured for 18 years in a bourbon cask and is bottled at 58.0% ABV.
When you say Macallan, you say sherried whiskey. The distillery, which opened in Speyside in 1824, still mainly produces single malt whisky matured in sherry casks. Take this 12 year old edition: buttery, sweet, dark red fruit, tobacco...a pleasant dram.
One of the first single malt whiskies from the young Dutch distillery Dubhghlas. It is a peated, 3-year-old malt that matured in a Palo Cortado sherry quarter cask, a small cask, so there is a clear cask influence. At a cask strength of 62.8% ABV.
The single malt whisky matured in PX and Oloroso sherry casks, red wine and virgin oak casks. Notes like heather, honey, red fruit, cinnamon, nutmeg and chocolate. Complex and balanced. This is the 13th batch in the 10-year-old Cask Strength series. 59.8%
You don't often come across an 18-year-old single malt whisky for this price anymore! It is a standard bottling in the Elgin Heritage series from Speyside Distillery Glen Moray. The sweet, fruity, malty whisky matured in first fill bourbon casks. (47.2%)
This Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey is distilled according to old traditions by two descendants of the Beam family. The Yellowstone Select is a blend of 4- and 7-year-old bourbons. Vanilla and caramel, sweet, spicy, blood orange, a hint of smoke. 46.5%
Aberfeldy 16 year old bottled at 40%. Easy to drink with a typical profile. Butterscotch, raisins, honey, oranges and some spices.
If you want a bourbon for a reasonable price that exceeds the average bourbon whiskeys , then this Eagle Rare is for you: a single barrel bottling, aged 10 years in new American oak. He has everything a good bourbon must have.
The Dubhghlas Distillery is located in the Dutch Zwartsluis, by the Black Water (Dubhghlas in Scots). Here, Cees and Laura distil various spirits in between their work as sailors. Such as this 3-year-old, Ruby port-aged single malt. (62.6%)
