A distillery bottling is a bottling by the whisky distillery itself. We also call this 'original brand' bottling or OB. Until the 1970s, there were only 12 distillers in Scotland who released original brands. The whisky from the other distillers that did not disappear into the blends was bottled by independent bottlers.
Almost all distillers now have their own bottlings. This can be standard bottlings that always come in standard quality, or special bottlings in a limited edition. Sometimes even single-cask releases are involved.
But in addition to the OB's, there still appear independent bottlings (IB) from all distilleries.
Speyside Distillery Benromach bottled this single malt whisky especially for Whiskybase in early 2026. The whisky went into the cask, a first-fill bourbon barrel, in early 2008. After 18 years, it was released in 229 bottles at a surprisingly hefty 59.1%.
This 21-year-old Springbank single malt whisky is one of the core bottlings from the quirky Campbeltown distillery, but it's certainly no standard dram! It matured in both sherry and bourbon casks and was bottled in 2015. Don't miss out! (46%)

When talking about Balvenie single malt, you don't immediately think, or actually not at all, of a peated whisky. But this 14-year-old, bourbon-aged Peat Week is actually a Balvenie distilled from 100% peated barley malt! Unique! (bottled in 2017, 48.3%)

Ardbeg was one of the first to dilute its single malt not to 40%, but to 46%. This meant the whisky did not need to be chill-filtered (to prevent cloudiness), allowing more flavour to be retained. This 46% whisky from 2001 is 24 years old. Score: 90.28.
