Blair Athol was built in Pitlochry (Highlands) at the end of the 18th century, making it one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. Like many Scottish distilleries, Blair Athol experienced a series of closures and reopenings and owner changes. The distillery was completely rebuilt in 1949. In 1973 the number of stills doubled from 2 to 4. Now and then distillery bottlings appear on the market, but most of the bottlings of Blair Athol single malt whisky come from independent bottlers.
Blair Athol is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. In 2003, a 27-year-old bottling of the single malt whisky appeared in the Rare Malts Selection series. Creamy, dark fruit, marzipan, oak, flowers, and chocolate are just some of the keywords.
After 15 years in a bourbon cask, this Blair Athol single malt whisky was bottled by Signatory Vintage in 2003. It was not until 2020 that the bottling was registered in the Whiskybase, until now without ratings. Are you the first to review it? (43%)
This Archives bottling was released in their perhaps smallest and most unknown series: Squids from Belgium. This is a remarkably young Blair Athol bottling. The Highland malt matured for 4 years in a special 'first fill' Koval bourbon cask. (62.3%)
