Blair Athol was built in Pitlochry (Highlands) at the end of the 18th century, making it one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. Like many Scottish distilleries, Blair Athol experienced a series of closures and reopenings and owner changes. The distillery was completely rebuilt in 1949. In 1973 the number of stills doubled from 2 to 4. Now and then distillery bottlings appear on the market, but most of the bottlings of Blair Athol single malt whisky come from independent bottlers.
Blair Athol is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. In 2003, a 27-year-old bottling of the single malt whisky appeared in the Rare Malts Selection series. Creamy, dark fruit, marzipan, oak, flowers, and chocolate are just some of the keywords.
This 12-year-old Blair Athol bottling from Murray McDavid has been released in a limited edition in 2021. This bottler specializes in matching single malt whisky and the casks in which it is matured and finished (here: finished in oloroso casks). (46%)
Finally another bottling of the Japanese Acorn in the house! In the Musicienne series, the bottler released this Blair Athol single malt whisky. The distillery is one of the oldest in Scotland. This 12-year-old edition matured in a bourbon cask. (56.5%)
Bottler Chapter 7 started in Switzerland but moved to Scotland to better search for exceptional whiskies. The bottler found this 10-year-old Blair Athol single malt whisky that had matured on a bourbon hogshead, for example, and bottled it at 50.5%.
