In Rothes, Speyside, in 1898, a new distillery, the Glen Grant 2, was built opposite the existing Glen Grant distillery. It soon closed again, in 1902.
Only in 1965, after a thorough renovation and under a new owner, did the distillery open again, now under the name of Caperdonich. Until 2002, this Speyside distillery produced single malt whisky for blends such as Chivas Regal. There were no own bottlings. Caperdonich was closed in 2002. Strangely enough, a handful of own bottlings appeared afterwards. Hundreds of independent bottlings have appeared, in recent years however, we have seen very few. The distillery is now demolished.
In 2002, the Speyside distillery Caperdonich closed; this Cadenhead's bottling dates from long before that. Sometime in the 1980s, this 17-year-old Speyside single malt appeared on the Italian market in a 75cl Dumpy Bottle. (bottled at 45.7% ABV)
The Bottlers, a very high-scoring bottler, hardly release any bottlings anymore (the last one in 2015, as far as we know), but in 2004, they released this 27-year-old single malt whisky from the Caperdonich Distillery that closed in 2002. (54.3%)
This is a great opportunity to taste the single malt whisky from the Caperdonich Distillery, which closed in 2002. This bottle is part of the 2008 Chairman's Stock bottling from Cadenhead. The Speysider matured for 27 years in a bourbon cask. (56.8%)
To the regret of many whisky lovers, the Caperdonich Distillery closed in 2002. Ten years later, this Director's Cut bottling from Douglas Laing was released: a 30 (!) year old, refill sherry cask-matured Caperdonich single malt. (50.9%, score: 90.1)
