Glenkinchie, located close to Edinburgh, is one of the three remaining malt whisky distilleries of more than a hundred that were once in the Lowlands. According to Glenkinchie themselves they were already there in 1825, but with a different name. In practical terms, 1880 is the 'birth year'. But what does it matter ...Glenkinchie was one of the few distilleries that remained open during WWI. Since the end of the last century, Glenkinchie has released every year a bottling in The Distillers Edition, but there are few other distillery bottlings.
Perhaps the single malt whisky from Lowland distillery Glenkinchie is underrated. You would definitely say that after tasting this Hogshead bottling, because this slightly waxy malt with notes of green fruit and spices is indeed a Glenkinchie! (9y, 48%)
