Founded by Scotsman Graeme Macaloney, working according to the artisan Scottish tradition, with Scottish stills, the Victoria Caledonian Distillery stands on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada since 2016. There they distill home-malted Canadian barley and let the spirit mature in quality American and European oak casks. The distillation is, in addition to Macaloney, in the hands of two (ex-) Scots with a solid background in whisky production.
The Canadian Victoria Caledonian Distillery has only been around for a short time. Too short to call all their products whisky. But they would like to introduce us to their products already, and they do so with, for example, this peated single malt spirit
Darach Poitín is Celtic-Irish for oak-aged new make spirit. And that's what this bottling is. A pot-still spirit, triple distilled in the classic Irish way and bourbon-aged, it gives you a good idea of Macaloney's house style. Makes one curious! (46%)
You don't come across a peated Canadian whisky very often, so pay attention to this Macaloney's The Peat Project! This whisky is distilled from local barley, the malt of which was peat-dried at the distillery. The whisky matured in a bourbon cask. (46%)
