Single malt whisky is a mixture of malt whisky from casks of the same distillery. Malt whisky is made from barley malt and distilled in pot stills, and has matured for at least 3 years in oak barrels. This whisky usually has a for the distillery characteristic flavor. Is considered the classic whisky.

The colourful labels of Chorlton Whisky's bottlings are certainly impressive, but so is the quality. Here's a 13-year-old single malt whisky from the lesser-known Highland distillery Tullibardine. A great bottle to try to get to know this malt! 52.2% ABV
The standard bottling of Highland Distillery Tullibardine. Founded in 1949,the distillery only really started to run at full speed from 2008. The single malt whisky for this bottling matures for 15 years in first fill bourbon casks. Bottled at 43%.
In 1949, Tullibardine Distillery opened its doors as the first new distillery in Scotland in the 20th century. In 2026, bottler Maltbarn released this 9-year-old Tullibardine single malt whisky. The Highlander matured in a bourbon cask. (55.6% ABV)
Regular visitors to our webshop will know that behind names like secret or unnamed Orkney the well-known Highland Park single malt whisky is hidden. This reasonably priced Unnamed Orkney by Van Wees is 17 years old and matured in a refill sherry cask.
Quite a mysterious bottling! Bottled in 2007 under the VETO label (?) by The Alchemist (that is Gordon Wright of the Springbank family). It is an 8-year-old, bourbon-aged, triple-distilled single malt, presumably a Hazelburn. (46%)
This is the 2nd edition of the single malt whisky from Wagging Finger distillery in Deventer. While the 1st edition matured in two ex-Scotch whisky casks, this new, 4-year-old edition matured in an ex-Glenglassaugh and a bourbon cask. (232 bottles, 50.3%)
The Waterford Distillery, which started in 2016, is based on the terroir principle, the idea that you can taste from which of 89 Irish farms the barley for their single malt whisky comes from. This 3-year-old Argot edition matured in various cask types.
At the American Westland Distillery, it is primarily about what the barley does for their single malt whisky and not the cask. Westland uses different types of barley, and for this Colere Edition 2 it was a variety called Talisman. Bottled at 50.0%.
An early single malt bottling from Japanese distiller Eigashima Shuzo. The bottle does not mention age, but this must be a young whisky. Yet the taste palette is already nicely developed, and it has that modest, elegant Japanese character in the nose.
When you know that the name Whitlaw stands for Highland Park, you look at this bottle differently. Signatory Vintage bottled this 8-year-old Orkney single malt after finishing it in first-fill Pedro Ximénez casks. Nicely balanced and nicely priced. (46%)

Father's Day is coming up again, and then Wolfburn is one of those distilleries that thinks with us about a suitable gift. This is theirCask Strength Edition: a 7 year old single malt whisky matured in both sherry and bourbon casks, bottled at 58.2%.
The Aurora is one of the core bottlings from Highland Distillery Wolfburn. This edition matured for 80% in bourbon first-fill and quarter casks, and for 20% in sherry casks. Fruity, not very complex, but pleasantly drinkable. Bottled at 46% ABV. (350 ml).
The Morven is the peated standard bottling of the young Wolfburn distillery. Smoke is clearly but not intrusive present, in the palette. There are also notes of caramel, malt, hay and nuts and, ultimately, some fruit. Worth trying!

With their Writer's Tears single malt whisky, the Walsh Whiskey Distillery pays homage to the 19th century Irish whiskey. The whisky in the Red Head series matured in Oloroso sherry casks. A warm, uncomplicated dram at a fair price. Bottled at 46%.
Yamazaki is the oldest distillery in Japan. Their whisky gets excellent reviews on average. Here's a new edition of one of their standard bottlings: the 12 Year Old Single Malt Japanese Whisky. It matured in Japanese oak casks, among others. (43%)
The Japanese distillery Yamazaki has been around for a century. They age their single malt whisky in American and European casks, but also in Japanese oak, which gives it a very unique taste. The Yamazaki bottlings often get very high marks. Like this one
Over ten years ago, Yamazaki, Japan's oldest whisky distillery, released this Distiller's Reserve. The rich, sweet single malt whisky matured in Bordeaux French oak casks, American oak casks, and Japanese oak sherry casks. (NAS, 43% ABV)
In 2015, the Japanese whisky producer Nikka decided to mention the age of their bottlings no longer. This 10-year-old single malt whisky from the renowned Yoichi distillery is one of the last with the age mentioned on the label. Bottled at 45%.
