One of the series from Signatory Vintage is the Single Grain Collection, a series with very attractively priced bottlings of single grain whisky, not complex, easy to drink. This is a grain from the North British Distillery, 13 years old and at 43%.
Cardhu was one of the first distilleries to launch its own single malt bottlings in the 1960s. The single malt whisky has since been released in several Diageo Special Releases. The 2021 edition is 14 years old and is finished in red wine casks. (55.5%)
The single malt whisky of Royal Lochnagar near Balmoral Castle was included in Diageo's Classic Malts series in 2005. So the whisky participates in the Diageo Special Releases that many are looking forward to. 16 years old and at 57.5% is this edition.
What does Auld Goonsy say about this Bruichladdich bottling? 'Matured in a Bourbon Barrel for over 15 years, this Islay malt has an earthy spiciness and a good serving of a dreamy sweet treat. Pleasure in a glass.' An edition of 196 bottles at 50%.
We've picked up some great Lagavulins: Special Release bottlings from the first decade of this century. These are 12 year old Lagavulin single malt whiskies bottled at cask strength. So this bottle is from 2008 and at 56.4% strength.
In the new Toiseach Orra range of blended whiskies, Whisky Import Nederland presents an 11-year-old blend of Scottish single malt and grain whisky for a reasonable price. The blend matured in an ex-sherry cask and is bottled at 50%.
Glenfiddich is the best-selling single malt whisky in the world with 10 million bottles annually. That is not to say that they only think in terms of large batches. For example, this is a Small Batch edition. Aged for 18 years in sherry and bourbon casks.
There is Caol Ila single malt whisky in this blended malt, and for example Clynelish, Linkwood and Benrinnes. The whisky matured in bourbon, oloroso and French oak casks. This results in a fruity, nicely balanced dram: the Orchard House from Compass Box.
Machrie Moor is the brand under which Arran releases peated malt. And within this brand there are the Cask Strength bottlings in a limited edition. The Machrie Moor's have their own character, different from the peated Islay's for example.
The Tamnavulin distillery was established in 1966 to supply single malt whisky for blends such as Whyte & Mackay. Since 1988, Tamnavulin has also been releasing distillery bottlings. Like this one. A single malt finished in red wine casks. (40%, 1 Ltr)
For those looking for a classic, old school sherried whisky, this is a bottle to think about. It is a Macallan single malt whisky that came out quite a while ago already, after having matured for 12 years in carefully selected sherry casks. (40%).
An 18 year old Macallan single malt whisky with vintage 1988! A classic exemplary sherried whisky from the famous brand. Bottled in 2006, and since then rated with a very high score. If this is not a collector's item! (43%)
Mackinlay's whisky was once famous because polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton took crates of it with him on his expeditions. The bottle of 5-years-old blended Scotch whisky you see here was bottled for the French market decades ago. A special bottle.
More and more distilleries are making single malt whisky from barley from the region. Bruichladdich does this already for years for special bottlings, and now again for this Port Charlotte. The barley for this peated malt comes from home base Islay. (50%)
Bottled in 2021, this 18-year-old anCnoc, in the core range of the Knockdhu Distillery. It matured on bourbon and sherry casks, and was bottled at 46%. The sherry influence is clearly noticeable in the notes of dark fruit and chocolate. A solid dram!
Edradour is one of the smallest classic Scotch whisky distilleries. By default, they distill unpeated single malt whisky, but under the Ballechin brand they make a firmly peated dram. This one is 15 years old, matured in bourbon and sherry casks. (58.9%)
This is the first edition of the new Malting Season series from Speyside Distillery BenRiach. This single malt whisky is produced in the traditional way, also using the historic malt floor. It matured in bourbon and virgin oak casks. Bottled at 47,8%.
From the Richly Matured series, this 15-year-old Knockando aged in bourbon and sherry casks. A fairly complex malt with, besides the floral and fruity Speyside notes, sherry influences such as cinnamon, chocolate and apple sauce. Bottled at 43%.
Kentucky Owl is a more exclusive bourbon, highly valued on average in, for example, the Whiskybase. Why this Confiscated in 1916 is so called is not immediately clear, but with notes such as gardenia, banana bread, grapes and sourdough, it is special.
If you are looking for a fine, complex bourbon for a reasonable price, then this Evan Williams Bottled-in-Bond is an option! With a mash recipe of 78% corn, 10% rye and 12% barley malt and a minimum maturation of 4 years, this is a classic bourbon whiskey
Following the first batch in 2020, the Isle of Skye's Torabhaig Distillery releases a large batch of their peated, traditionally distilled single malt whisky in 2021. A young whisky of course, but already quite complex. Matured in bourbon casks. (46%)
Smokey Virgin, that is The English Whisky Company calls this single malt whisky that came out in their Small Batch Release series. And that is not for nothing. The whisky matured for 6 years in new (virgin) oak casks treated with peat smoke. (46%)
In December 2006, the first casks were filled with spirit from St George's Distillery in Roudham, England. The English Whisky Company was launched. One of their hundreds of bottlings is this Single Cask Release. Aged for 10 years in a bourbon cask (58,1%)
A limited edition bottling, that's the 2021 edition of this Bunnahabhain single malt whisky. It is 12 years old and matured in both sherry and bourbon casks. This resulted in a complex palette of dried fruit, vanilla, roasted nuts and maritime notes.
