Glen Scotia single malt whisky is known for its maritime character, recognizable in this Campbeltown Malts Festival 2024 festive bottling. But there are also the notes introduced by 9 years of maturing and finishing in bourbon and fino sherry casks. 56.2%
Aged in PX and Oloroso sherry casks, in red wine and virgin oak casks. Notes such as heather, honey, red fruit, cinnamon, nutmeg and chocolate. Complex and balanced. This is batch 11 of the 10-year-old Glenallachie Cask Strength single malt whisky. 59.4%
The Strathmill Distillery in Speyside has released virtually no bottlings of their single malt whisky themselves. That's not a problem at all because bottlers like Maltbarn do that for them, and how: this is a 27 year (!) old, sherried Strathmill. (55.7%)
The Whiskybase shop is the only sales point in the Netherlands for Maltbarn bottlings, and we are quite proud of that. We are pleased to have this 17-year-old, bourbon-matured, 52.7% strong Orkney Malt (say, Highland Park), a single malt, on the shelf.
This Maltbarn bottling is another unspecified single malt whisky from the island of Islay. The label hints at 'Southern A' for the distillery...The whisky matured for 14 years in a bourbon cask and was bottled at 50.2% cask strength. Curious?
The 226th bottling from bottler Maltbarn is an Islay Malt. If a bottler calls a single malt whisky that, it means a peated malt from one of the distilleries on whisky island Islay. This is a 15-year-old one that matured in a sherry cask. (54.4%)
The Craigellachie distillery is over 125 years old, but has long maintained a low profile with its single malt whisky. Nowadays they release bottlings themselves, but there are still independent bottlings such as this 16-year-old from Maltbarn. (53.1%)
Blair Athol was built in the Highlands in the late 18th century, making it one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. Always interesting, bottlings of this single malt whisky. Like this one from Maltbarn: 14 years old, sherry matured and at 55.3%.
A new label design, but still the same Maltbarn whisky quality: this is a bottling of a 17-year-old Aultmore single malt whisky, matured in a sherry cask and bottled at 52.3% cask strength. The 223rd bottling of the 'Purveyors of Taste'.
This 16-year-old single malt whisky from the Double Cask Matured series by distillery Aberlour is a must for fans of non-smoky, fruity sherried whisky. The influence of the bourbon barrel in the background gives this dram extra depth. Bottled at 43%.
Don't be distracted by the label; pay attention to the contents of this bottle. It is a Royal Brackla single malt whisky bottled by the Belgian-Dutch casQueteers. It matured for 15 years in a hogshead and was bottled at a cask strength of 53.1%.
This is one of the first editions from the young craft distillery Bossche Stokers from the Dutch town of Den Bosch: a Hemel & Hellevuur Dutch Single Malt Whisky. The whisky is distilled from several types of malt and aged in 3 different sherry casks. 48%
Only 80 bottles are included in this Hemel & Hellevuur edition, bottled by 3006 Whisky. The single malt whisky from the young Dutch Bossche Stokers matured for 4 years in a 1st-fill PX octave, which is clearly visible in the color. It is bottled at 61%.

Glen Garioch is one of Scotland's oldest distilleries. Their single malt whisky had a more peated character until 1985, but now it has more fruit in the taste. This 21-year-old malt matured in a bourbon cask and was bottled by WhiskySponge at 55.4%.
In the bourbon cask from which this WhiskySponge bottling comes, 2 Aberlour single malts of different vintages were mixed: one from 1989 and one from 1991, multi-vintage! The youngest counts, so this Aberlour, bottled in 2024, is 33 years old. (49.7%)
The cheerful label can mislead you, but this is really a serious bottling, just like the earlier ones from WhiskySponge's Islay Sponge series. This is a 20-year-old, bourbon-matured single malt whisky from the Bowmore Distillery, bottled at 54.9% ABV.
The label explains how to pronounce the name of this single malt whisky and that the name means Safe Haven. Ledaig is the peated variety from the Tobermory Distillery on Mull. This is a bottling from 2006, clearly different from the Ledaig of today. (42%)
'Finealta' is Gaelic for 'elegant', and this 2010 bottling from Glenmorangie certainly is! The single malt whisky matured in Oloroso sherry casks and American oak casks. Creamy and full in the mouth with fruity, wood, vanilla and sherry notes. (46%)
Highland distillery Ardmore produces a lightly peated single malt whisky. In this bottling, the peated element is enhanced because Signatory Vintage allowed the whisky to mature for 13 years in casks that previously contained peated Islay whisky. (46%)
It matured in two 2nd-fill Oloroso sherry casks, this 14-year-old Port Dundas single grain whisky. The grain from the distillery that closed in 2010 was bottled in mid-2023. An edition of Signatory Vintage with an excellent price/quality ratio. (46%)
With this Cù Bòcan, Tomatin releases a peated variant of its single malt whisky. This 6th edition matured in PX and Jamaican rum casks, which gives this whisky some special notes. The bottle itself expresses the smoky, fiery character of Cù Bòcan. (46%)
