A distillery bottling is a bottling by the whisky distillery itself. We also call this 'original brand' bottling or OB. Until the 1970s, there were only 12 distillers in Scotland who released original brands. The whisky from the other distillers that did not disappear into the blends was bottled by independent bottlers.
Almost all distillers now have their own bottlings. This can be standard bottlings that always come in standard quality, or special bottlings in a limited edition. Sometimes even single-cask releases are involved.
But in addition to the OB's, there still appear independent bottlings (IB) from all distilleries.
The Blackwater Distillery isn’t afraid to experiment. Take this Starburst Spice Bag: it’s a 3-year-old rye whisky, but one made from peated rye, which is rare! It also matured in a special Ribera Del Duero cask of European oak. (50%)
A new Ardnamurchan Core Batch, a standard whisky from the young distillery. A feature of the Ardnamurchan single malt bottlings is that they are 50:50 peated/unpeated, and matured for 65% in bourbon and 35% in sherry casks. (6 years old, 46.8%)
After maturing in a bourbon cask, this 5-year-old single malt whisky from the Dutch Cley Distillery was finished for 2 years in a cask that previously contained a peated malt from the Isle of Mull, resulting in a smoky dram with tropical fruit notes. 53%

Single grain whisky is not something you often come across: it is a whisky distilled from different grains, but by the same distillery. This Planxty Wilcox from the Irish Blackwater Distillery is even distilled from five types of grain. Unique! (47.5%)
Each step in the whisky-making process of England's The Lakes Distillery is supervised by whisky maker Dhavall Gandhi. For this bottling, Gandhi carefully selected Oloroso, PX, and red wine casks in which the single malt whisky matured. Bottled at 52.0%.
Glenfarclas is famous for its sherried whisky, and this first edition of their The Trinity Vintage Series shows why. The Speyside single malt whisky matured for 12 years in Glenfarclas' finest Oloroso sherry casks. For a reasonable price! (46%)
This is an 11-year-old bottling of Speyside single malt whisky Glenallachie, released as Batch 7 in the Single Cask for Europe series. The whisky matured in a Moscatel hogshead, which gave it rich fruit and oak aromas. It is bottled at 62.4% cask strength
For when you want something different: an unpeated Caol Ila single malt whisky! This whisky has also undergone a shorter fermentation, which gives it a very creamy mouthfeel, and it is distilled in such a way that you taste green apples. (11y, 57.3%)
Cavehill is the name of the cemetery in Louisville near Rabbit Hole Distilling where the pioneers of bourbon whiskey are buried. Consider this Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey a tribute to them. The bourbon is distilled from four grains. (47.5%)
This Diageo Special Release brings out the distinct character of Talisker single malt whisky with maritime notes of seaweed, sea salt and oysters, but there are certainly also fruity and spicy notes, alongside a medium smokiness. (8y, bottled at 58.7%)
The young Ardnamurchan distillery has a Cask Strength Release bottling series. This bottling was released in this series in 2023. The single malt whisky matured for 90% in bourbon and 10% in sherry casks. Of course, it is bottled at cask strength (58.1%).
A 20-year-old Lowland single malt, from the currently closed distillery and soon to be re-opened. Distilled at the Rosebank distillery in 1981 and bottled in May 2002 for the Rare Malts series. In excellent condition including the inner folder.
Compass Box calls this bottling 'our majestic king'. Matured in sherry and red wine casks, the whisky got a crimson colour. King Crimson. In addition to the colour, the casks also gave the blend intense notes of chocolate, plum jam and red currant. (46%)

If you want to taste an Irish single pot still whiskey at cask strength, this 12 year old Redbreast is an option. Aged in bourbon and sherry casks. Pot still whiskey is made from barley malt and unmalted barley. This batch is at 57.2% cask strength.
This single malt whisky is a kind of scoop. It is the 1st whisky under that name by the Belgian distillery Filliers, in a limited edition. This single malt is 10 years old and aged in classic sherry casks made of European oak. Bottled at 43%.
Rossville Union is the brand under which the Ross & Squibb Distillery in Indiana, US, releases rye whisky. They do this according to a traditional recipe and process. This Bottled in Bond edition is 6 years old and aged in freshly charred oak casks. 50%
The Tamnavulin distillery was established in 1966 to supply single malt whisky for blends such as Whyte & Mackay. Since 1988, Tamnavulin has also been releasing distillery bottlings. Like this one. A single malt finished in red wine casks. (40%, 1 Ltr)
Rich in taste, light, creamy oak, grassy, plums, fruit, complex woody ... the reviews tumble over each other. There is a lot to taste in this 17-year-old Craigellachie single malt whisky that matured in casks of American oak. At 46%.
The Diageo Special Release 2024 also includes this bottling from the Glen Ord distillery (known in Asia as The Singleton of Glen Ord). The 14-year-old single malt whisky matured in bourbon casks and is partly finished in select European oak casks. (54.7%)
In 2016, the Isle of Arran Distillery celebrated its 21st anniversary, including the release of this 21-year-old single malt. It is a limited edition, a bottling of the whisky from four bourbon casks finished in Oloroso casks. (52.6%)
In this Springbank, bottled at the beginning of this century, you can fully recognize the classic and by many appreciated distillery character. The 10-year-old Campbeltonian single malt whisky was bottled at 100º proof or 57%. We only have one bottle!
The 'Double Barrel' on the label of this Irish Whiskey from Glendalough indicates that this blend of their own malt and grain whisky was first matured in bourbon casks and then in carefully selected Oloroso sherry casks. Bottled at cask strength (61.3%)
