Strength

A distillery bottling is a bottling by the whisky distillery itself. We also call this 'original brand' bottling or OB. Until the 1970s, there were only 12 distillers in Scotland who released original brands. The whisky from the other distillers that did not disappear into the blends was bottled by independent bottlers.
Almost all distillers now have their own bottlings. This can be standard bottlings that always come in standard quality, or special bottlings in a limited edition. Sometimes even single-cask releases are involved.
But in addition to the OB's, there still appear independent bottlings (IB) from all distilleries.

Glenglassaugh Revival

With the Revival bottlings, Highland Distillery Glenglassaugh celebrates its reopening in 2008 after closing in 1986. This bottling matured in bourbon and red wine casks. Young yet complex, with notes of white grapes, dried fruit, honey, and hay. (46%)

Longrow 10-year-old - Sauternes Hogshead

This is an exclusive 2018 bottling for The Nectar (Belgium). It's a 10-year-old Longrow, the peated whisky version from Springbank Distillery. The single malt matured in a Sauternes cask. 'Earthy smoke and sweet wine', according to one taster. (56% ABV)

Macallan 12-year-old Sherry Oak

This Macallan single malt was, in 2007, the 115th whisky registered in the Whiskybase (now there are around 280,000). This classic Speysider matured for 12 years in select sherry casks. For those who appreciate history and a well-sherried dram. (40% ABV)

Deanston 10-year-old - Bordeaux Finish

A special bottling from Highland distillery Deanston. The special thing is the finish: the single malt whisky has matured for a while in casks in which red burgundy previously matured. That gives this 10-year-old malt extra fruity notes. At 46.3% ABV.

Currach Single Cask - Wakame Seaweed Cask

A whisky like this Currach Atlantic Wakame had never been seen before when it was released in 2021: it's an Irish single malt whisky finished in seaweed-charred casks! And that's a rare, sustainable seaweed. At cask strength (57.2% ABV).

Saburomaru 2021 - V The Hierophant - Cask Strength

The Saburomaru Distillery in Japan uses unique, cast Zemon pot stills. That, and the use of aged ale yeast alongside fresh yeast in the distillation of this bottling, gives this single malt whisky a full and complex flavour, despite its young age. (60%)

Glenfarclas 105

This is a Glenfarclas as you'd imagine a Glenfarclas single malt whisky. The Speysider matured in sherry casks before being bottled in 2012 at a robust 60% ABV. Rich and complex, with a well-balanced sherry influence. And at a budget price.

Bladnoch 08-year-old

The Bladnoch Distillery presents in its new Galloway Collection a double-matured version of its single malt whisky, matured for 8 years in American oak red wine casks. Strawberry, jam, and spicy notes are Bladnoch's own keywords for the taste. (46.7%)

Edradour 12-year-old - Caledonia

The cask from which this bottling of an Edradour single malt whisky came was selected by songwriter Dougie Maclean. The bottling is named after his song Caledonia. Incidentally, it was an Oloroso sherry cask, on which the malt matured for 12 years. (46%)

Over the years, Ardbeg has released several experimental bottlings. In 2014, there was, among others, this extra special Auriverdes Gold, in a limited edition of only 300 bottles. The peated single malt whisky matured in toasted American oak. (49.9% ABV)

Ballechin 13-year-old - Cask Strength Edition

A new label design adorns this Ballechin bottling. Ballechin is the heavily peated version of Edradour's single malt whisky. This Ballechin is released in the Cask Strength Edition series. It is 13 years old and matured in bourbon and sherry casks. 54.9%

Bowmore 15-year-old

This 15 year old single malt whisky is a standard bottling from the old Bowmore Distillery on whisky island Islay. For most of those 15 years, the peated whisky matured in bourbon casks, the last part, the finish, was in sherry casks. Bottled at 43%.

Inchmurrin 12-year-old - Intense Orchard Fruit

Loch Lomond's Inchmurrin single malt whisky is unique because it's distilled using the Loch Lomond straight-neck pot stills. This 12-year-old Intense Orchard Fruit is even more unique in that it's matured in 3 different types of American oak casks. (46%)

This Edradour single malt whisky matured for nearly 13 years in four select Pinot Noir casks. The Highlander is bottled from these casks at a strength of 48.2% ABV. It's a fruity dram (think red fruit, apple juice, grapes, and berries) with woody notes.
