A distillery bottling is a bottling by the whisky distillery itself. We also call this 'original brand' bottling or OB. Until the 1970s, there were only 12 distillers in Scotland who released original brands. The whisky from the other distillers that did not disappear into the blends was bottled by independent bottlers.
Almost all distillers now have their own bottlings. This can be standard bottlings that always come in standard quality, or special bottlings in a limited edition. Sometimes even single-cask releases are involved.
But in addition to the OB's, there still appear independent bottlings (IB) from all distilleries.
Established in 2013, the artisanal Strathearn Distillery distils its single malt whisky from an old barley variety that yields less alcohol but more flavour. This Batch No.2 matured in bourbon, sherry and virgin oak casks. You have to taste it! (50%)
Speyside distillery Tamdhu makes its single malt whisky to mature almost exclusively in sherry casks. This also applies to his 12-year-old standard bottling. For those who love sherried whisky: this is a pleasantly drinkable, nicely balanced dram.
With this bottling, the third in their Harmony Collection, Macallan aims to celebrate Scotland's natural beauty, and specifically its meadows. See the back label. The single malt whisky, bottled in 2023, matured in sherried and bourbon casks. (44.2%)
If you are looking for an affordable, heavily sherried single malt whisky in which you can clearly taste the distillery's character, then this 12-year-old standard Glenallachie is the right choice for you. It aged in Oloroso and PX casks. (new label, 46%)
This Macallan single malt was distilled in 1963 and bottled for the Italian market some 17 years later, in 1980. Although the label doesn't state it, we can assume it is a sherry-matured whisky. A refined and creamy dram. (43% ABV; Whiskybase score: 92,3)
After a four-year hiatus, Tormore Distillery was relaunched in 2026 under its new owner, Elixir Distillers. This 'Timeless' is part of that new lineup. The single malt matured in bourbon and sherry casks. Offered at an attractive introductory price! (43%)

This is truly a unique bottling! This Shackleton's The Discovery Edition from the brand Mackinlay's is a replica of the blended malt whisky that Sir Ernest Shackleton took with him on his famous Antarctic expedition in 1907. Bottled in 2011 at 47.3% ABV.
Just a little different from the well-known bourbons, yet still very reasonably priced. Old Bardstown Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is distilled according to an old recipe and offers a wide range of flavours: from citrus to syrup, smoke, and wood. 45%
This Paul John single malt from the Indian John Distilleries, released in the Select Cask series, matured in the tropical climate of Goa and is finished in Madeira casks. An explosion of sweet and creamy flavours, tropical fruit, caramel, and nuts. (48%)
Yamazaki is the oldest distillery in Japan. Their whisky gets excellent reviews on average. Here's a new edition of one of their standard bottlings: the 12 Year Old Single Malt Japanese Whisky. It matured in Japanese oak casks, among others. (43%)
Just a few months ago, there was the Ardnahoe Inaugural release, and here comes the young Islay distillery with this, also 5-year-old Infinite Loch. The peated single malt whisky matured in ex-bourbon and Oloroso casks and is bottled at 50% ABV.
Paul John, the brand launched in 2012 by the Indian John Distilleries, is now an established name. The single malt is distilled from Indian barley. This edition, matured in port casks in a tropical climate, was released in the Select Cask series. (48%)
This is the first sherried whisky from the young LAGG distillery on the Isle of Arran. This edition is named after a nearby village. The peated single malt whisky first matured in bourbon casks and then six months in Oloroso sherry casks. (55% ABV)
The Dubhghlas Distillery is located in the Dutch Zwartsluis, by the Black Water (Dubhghlas in Scots). Here, Cees and Laura distil various spirits in between their work as sailors. Such as this 3-year-old, Ruby port-aged single malt. (62.6%)
The Original is a standard bottling from the Highland distillery Glenmorangie. Unlike many other editions of this brand, the single malt whisky matured in only one type of cask: bourbon casks. An everyday dram for a nice price! (12 year old, at 40%)
Well, what more is there to say... a 37-year-old (!) Port Ellen single malt whisky, distilled in 1978 and bottled in 2016 at 55.2% cask strength. On Whiskybase, this legendary malt scores well over 92 points. A perfect peated dram and collector's item.
This is a Glenfarclas as you'd imagine a Glenfarclas single malt whisky. The Speysider matured in sherry casks before being bottled in 2012 at a robust 60% ABV. Rich and complex, with a well-balanced sherry influence. And at a budget price.
Meikle Tòir, Glenallachie's new peated single malt whisky line, has three standard series. The Sherry One is one of them. In addition to bourbon casks, the Speysider also matured in PX and Oloroso casks: cigars, butterscotch, mocha, figs, and more. 48%
With this Glendronach single malt distilled in 1963, you will be introduced to the old bottle effect, but also to complex and intense fruit aromas. The whisky, now best known for its sherried bottlings, matured in bourbon casks for 12 years. (43% ABV)
A 14-year-old Highland Park for this price! This Land of Orkney edition was bottled exclusively for travel retail, but is now also available in our shop. The single malt whisky matured in 1st-fill and refill sherry-seasoned American oak casks. (42.3% ABV)
This Bunnahabhain single malt whisky was bottled in 2026 after over 20 years of maturation. Of that, it spent six years in Armagnac casks, which imparted complex fruit notes to the Islay whisky, alongside the well-known maritime tones. (570 bottles; 49.9%
FEW Spirits in Illinois distils craft bourbon, rye whiskey and gin, as well as products like this Black Rebel Motorcycle Club that they call 'an uneasy mix of whiskey' themselves. The whisky is finished in rum and vermouth casks and bottled at 50.5% ABV
The Bunnahabhain Distillery on whisky island Islay mainly produces non-peated single malt whisky, but they make also smoky drams. Take the Toiteach a Dhà (Gaelic for 'Smoky Two'), for example: matured in bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks. Bottled at 46.3%.
