The young Dutch distillery Wagging Finger isn't afraid to experiment. Take, for example, this 5-year-old Malt & Rye Project bottling: a blend of a bourbon-aged single malt and a rye whisky that matured in virgin American oak. (55%)
This is the 2nd edition of the single malt whisky from Wagging Finger distillery in Deventer. While the 1st edition matured in two ex-Scotch whisky casks, this new, 4-year-old edition matured in an ex-Glenglassaugh and a bourbon cask. (232 bottles, 50.3%)
The Redbreast 18-year-old is a new core bottling from this brand. The single pot-still whisky matured in a unique combination of casks: bourbon, Ruby Port, Oloroso and Cream Sherry. This resulted in a creamy, fruity and spicy, very drinkable dram. (46%)
This Hemel & Hellevuur (Heaven & Hellfire) Dutch single malt whisky is bottled by 3006 Whisky. The whisky from the young Brabant distillery Bossche Stokers matured for 5 years in an Oloroso octave cask, and is bottled at a cask strength of 54.7%.
The Glen Spey distillery, which started in 1897, has been underexposed, as it actually only produces for the blending industry. So it is not due to the quality of its single malt whisky, as this TWA bottling proves! (26y, bourbon-matured, 49.8% ABV)
This single malt whisky was distilled in an (unnamed) Islay distillery, according to bottler Maltbarn. The whisky then matured for 24 years in a sherry cask and was bottled at 51.8%. Incidentally, the label features an image of the Laphroaig Distillery.
The label already gives it away: we are dealing with a single malt whisky that strikes like lightning! It is a 22-year-old Port Charlotte, the heavily peated malt from Islay distillery Bruichladdich. It matured in a bourbon cask and is bottled at 55.2%.
Auchentoshan is one of the few Scottish distillers with a distillation process of more than 2 passes. This gives a milder single malt whisky. The Whisky Blues bottled this Auchentoshan after it had matured for 26 years in a bourbon cask. (47.3% ABV)
We at Whiskybase are proud to be the importer of quality bottlings of Whisky AGE. This Williamson 2010 is one of them. A blended malt? Mwah... Let's say a Laphroaig single malt with a drop of another malt in it. (14 years old, Oloroso-matured, 61%)
Compass Box is a master of whisky blending. This Secrets of Smoke is proof of that: a blend of the Islay whiskies Caol Ila, Bowmore and Laphroaig and the Highlander Ardmore. The malts matured in Palo Cortado, Spanish red wine and Marsala casks. (52% ABV)
Speyside Distillery Mannochmore shares some production facilities with nearby Glenlossie but has a character of its own. This 16-year-old bottling of the single malt whisky, that matured in a first-fill Oloroso cask certainly shows that. (54.7%)
